Insanely lucky char in terms of both not being dead and also the items found for the build. I ought to be thinking about subtlety soon, but that Valinor shield is beautiful...

Good going, and yes, that shield is very tempting.

Is Lore-Master really worth it for this build? You have taken Keen Senses, and I'd guess you'd like to have Concentration and the point of Grace too.

I think Lore Master is always worth it - it makes inventory management so much easier. I like Finarfins especially because of the cheap perception abilities.

Shortsword of the shadows is interesting, but those Hunter boots are a fantastic find.

So in theory, I don't want to take any more evasion if I can help it. Once I've taken inner light, I am done with will. I need three more points of perception for the grace point and I'll think about focused attack/concentration. I shouldn't need to take melee as high as usual and I probably have all the melee abilites I need (unless I go rapid attack?). In the stealth tree, I'm not sure if I want cruel blow - it will help in the medium term, but I'd rather do it without. I shouldn't need vanish and I will want the dex point if the cost is worth it. That leaves me to pump song as high as possible. I still need silence and Lorien as a minimum and preferably woven themes. I need unwavering voice, but will try and hold out in the hope of finding Maglor. The grace point will depend on how much voice I have I guess.

On 19.9.2012 10:02 Psi wrote:
My worry is that I won't get song high enough to avoid needing high evasion. The other alternative is to weave Lorien with Mastery, but that seems a little cheap.

Scatha: I agree with Psi. Loremaster is always worth it...plus you get a nice exp boost when you get it anyway.

Maglor popped from a chest during my lunch break which was just what I needed!

Sometimes Grotesques stop following me. What causes that?

Progressing nicely, though a bit of a scare when a cold D bit me whilst reeling.

Psi: Closed doors, blocked routes can prevent grotesques from following. Usually other monsters go and open the doors though, which messes everything up :)

Other times they get boxed in weird rectangles they can't pathfind around. I use this occasionally to get rid of them, but I haven't got it down to a science yet. I bet clouded does :)

lol Dagmor really is the perfect accessory for this build!

@debo - usually I see Grotesques opening doors I shut, but sometimes, often with stealthy characters, they seem to get left behind.

Just found a =Dam (+2) in Ancalagon's hoard on my way into work. They must be rare! Still no song bonus from my hat slot. Really want that artefact with +4 or at least a Crown of Grace.

Rapid attack may be a mistake. With my low melee skill, the second blow may often miss without the stealth bonus. However I only turned it on for one test fight with a red D.

Chambers of Thu is on my current level. That should be my biggest test so far. I've not checked what Gorthaur's will is like yet though.

On 20.9.2012 12:32 Scatha wrote:
Gorthaur used to have the highest Will in the game (21); Morgoth now gets higher after he loses the crown (25). Lorien and Majesty give them a +5 bonus to their roll against your Song, and in the case of Lorien you also care how much you beat them by.

Good luck! Perhaps the Shortsword of Shadows will be good for that fight? I'd also think about pre-buffing with a Con potion.

On 20.9.2012 14:12 Psi wrote:
I used the Shadows shortsword and quaffed a !Grace for 40 song. Gorthaur didn't manage to get an attack on me! He'd become unwary and then notice me occassionally during his turns, but he never held focus to actually try to hit me - bless him.

I've now found Fingon, but I'm not sure the point of grace outweighs all the stealth I'd lose.

Still hoping for better headgear before the end.

I'd like to record the following information for posterity, since it will disappear when you update the dump later:

Before entering the throne room, and indeed with over 3,000 turns left before it will be forced, this character has 97,800 total experience.

I'm not certain, but I think that may be close to a record. I certainly didn't realise it was plausible (70k before the throne room seems typical, and 90k is very high). The highest experience for the game is only about 15k higher than that.

So I guess I'd say I think you're doing pretty well! 40 Song is obviously crazy as well.

In a way I'm gratified that it's not just your smiths who do this insanely well. :)

Scatha: Did you and half roughly calculate how much "extra experience" you can get in a 1.1 run with all the new uniques and equipment types etc. that were added?

I haven't looked at how unique generation works, but will increasing the number of uniques available affect at all the _number_ of them you might find in a certain game?

I'm always floored at how much XP Psi has before the throne room. It's usually more than I have at the end of the game :/

So nearly blew it. Wanted to safe time reaching a chamber, so played tag with a nameless thing hoping it would erratically go through the wall. It bit be leaving me on 5HP. I then realised I could just have used my mattock...

@Scatha - actually is that, that much XP? My last character managed over 113000 XP. I can't see myself getting another 13000 in the throne room and ascent - though I may be wrong. I guess Gothmog's Halls would have been worth a fair amount and it looks like I missed a lot of the early uniques.

About to do what I have built up to for the whole game. Song on 47 - two short of the magical 49. I guess I could wear Fingon for 48 - but that just wouldn't look right on this character and hey 2 protection looks so much tidier. So will this build work against Morogth? I'm going to go without rapid attack (taking it was a mistake and I could have had another point of song right now...)

Nearly, nearly threw it away on the ascent. This build cannot fight deathblades! I hadn't fought one on the way down, so when I saw it I thought of the xp... however those things cannot be slept and when my first blow did not kill it, my pitiful evasion and 2 protection did not help much! I had to pause, gather my thoughts, chug healing and quickness and leg it... phew.

Speaking of !Quickness - is this a record haul?

I didn't think I was going to be able to get all three silmarils with only Angrist as a sharp weapon and no song of sharpness. However Grond came to the rescue! I don't think I'd have managed it had I not carried my Gauntlets of Strength down to the throne room on a whim.

In which Morgy takes a nap. A really long sort of nap! This is crazy. I salute.

Thanks!

He made one move in the entire fight, which was to stumble sidewards off his throne and fall asleep again.

Wow.

And I can only hope that is a record potion haul in general. 36 Quickness, 19 Miruvor, 27 Healing... I don't see how you could get so many, even if you never drink them.
