Fear resistance is simply that -- a resistance. It gives +10 or something to your rolls, but does not confer immunity. I find myself often scared/paralyzed when wearing anti-fear/free action items with relatively low will :(

I nearly decided to drop it anyway when I started getting shadows at 400 feet. One time there about 20 turns between two shadows coming down the stairs, which considering their damage potential was very annoying.
Then I noticed I could one-shot them, and stopped caring.
Oathwraiths became about as annoying as shadows were a couple levels later, and after one bad experience I decided to run away from every one I saw. Near the end I one-shotted one, but decided not to start attacking them.
