I just wanted to check that you knew how to get Abilities. You didn't pick any up, but Song and Smithing won't do anything until you have some. You can access the menu by pressing (tab), and they usually cost experience. More details in the tutorial and the manual.

(You may also find investing more in melee and evasion early will help you, but there are lots of possible builds, and it can be fun to explore them!)
