Starting to work on winning all houses. I was sort of lame doing it this way... I started out with a standard melee build planned, but after finding Dagmor on 200' I then pretended I was of the Haleth (which is the easiest way to win an Edain). I will try to do a proper melee char with the melee affinity house, though I think winning an Edain without stealth would be too difficult for me.

By the way, I am concerned about the rapid attack stabbing nerf incoming... I know it's kind of silly it works like it does but I feel without it these characters wouldn't be viable. Being unable to stab things in one hit means you need to go stab-vanish-stab-vanish which isn't much fun at all. This character even with rapid attack often failed to one-hit a lot of things, and was plain unable to kill a lot of things too (which is fine).

Small note: my gloves of strength were destroyed on the way up, so I had 1d7s all game rather than 1d6s.

You found Ringil!! I'm curious why you ditched it -- it's the same weight as Dagmor, and you would have had +2 damage dice on every roll.

Also, that stealth cloak is insanity.

debo: Damn, interesting point on Ringil. I come from a game where short blades are the only worthwhile stabbing weapons, so the thought of stabbing stuff with a long sword didn't really occur to me!

That particular shadow cloak was found in the throne room, sitting next to Glaurung. The second time I nabbed something nice from under his nose this character. Before that I had a +3 and then a +4. I always like to use shadow cloaks as long as I can still get 2 light radius, with keen senses and listen I feel okay with low light, though it makes killing Gwathrauko a bit of pain.

Any human win is awesome! I wish you would win with a Hador warrior so I can stop trying and failing... miserably.

clouded: First, congratulations on another(!) win with the Edain.

Thanks for sharing your concerns about the change to rapid attack assassination interactions. My suspicion is that it won't make this build non-viable, but we'll definitely keep an eye on it. If we want to make it stronger there are lots of other tools available to us. One of the major forces behind the change is that at present it's obvious that just about every assassin should take rapid attack. After the change I think it's not obvious, and that that's a good thing (both because it presents more genuine decisions to the player and because flavourwise it seems odd that all assassins will stab really quickly ... Subtlety got added to the game because we liked the flavour of some characters just using a one handed weapon with no shield).

By the way, I'm not sure that you were deriving a huge amount of power from Rapid Attack with this character (though I'd think it was still good for you). You were getting two attacks with d7s instead of one with d10s (and about half an extra die on average). When up against armour those could be pretty similar to each other in net damage (though I guess two attacks also gives more consistency).

Scatha: Perhaps I do overestimate rapid attack a little, I will have to try playing without it and see how it goes, I have yet to do a smithing based assassin.

HallucinationMushroom: I think that evasion affinity is much better than melee affinity for a warrior unfortunately. Usually I take very few melee abilities, as depending on build I generally only want 3 or so, but I think almost all evasion skills are great (I don't like blocking or heavy armour use much), and they are maybe even better at increasing damage output - sprinting lets you charge a ton more, and flanking/retreat gives you so many more attacks.

Interesting point about evasion abilities being better than melee ones for a melee character. We tried to make them a similar level, but if they are indeed better, that is a bit odd and something we should keep an eye on.
