Trying for a non-Noldor win. This character had a lot of problems with not being able to kill anything until making the two accuracy rings at 700', in the second forge found. Things have been a bit easier since then, but I still could really use more forges.

And dead. Didn't expect to take 14 damage in one round from that with double fire resistance and good protection...

I'm afraid melee elemental attacks are a bit of an anomaly, in that stacked resistances don't do anything. Here your first source of fire resist reduced the damage from 5d10 to 4d10 (well actually 6d10 to 5d10, since it got a critical on you). Then it just needed a moderately lucky damage roll, or you a moderately unlucky protection roll, to finish you off. Ururaukar hit very hard.

The general rule with Ururaukar are that they're a joke unless they hit you :)

Scatha: So when the manual says "Resistances stack, reducing damage to ½, then ⅓, then ¼, …", that is a complete lie for melee? Good to know...

I'm afraid so. That part of the manual is not meant to be a full exposition of the mechanics, but a summary of changes from Angband. The problem is that you're relying on hints from elsewhere since we don't yet have a proper section on elemental damage -- I've written a draft of one, so we should get this in at some point.

I see that the melee branding mechanic is explained in the manual, but only in terms of the player attacking monsters -- it doesn't mention that this is symmetric.

Anyhow, sorry that you were caught out by this.
