First character in a fair bit. Still stabbing away at my arduous task, stubbornly not changing anything. However, the break has been good. Taking a step back is a good thing.

Why such low dex?

On 13.6.2012 01:45 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
The lack of dex indeed hurts in the mid-game, but if I live to see 750' onward, the 2 or so points won't matter much. It might not be the best setup, but I'm hedging my bet that I'll need as much extra damage as possible. I'm already at the point where I'll only be upping melee or evasion with my Perception and Will both at 10. I'm gambling that I'll also find free action and true-sight, and more brightness of course. Light is my real killer.

On 13.6.2012 01:45 Scatha wrote:
I'd guess the low Dex is because he's going to have plenty of experience to pour into melee and evasion, which makes up for low Dex, but he's short on ways to help his damage and health, so he wanted as much Str and Con as possible. HM: is that roughly right?

Are you definitely going to leave Will and Perception there? Perception makes sense to me, but it seems like higher Will might help in the late game (vampires and dragons). May depend on what else you can do against those, of course.

On 13.6.2012 01:49 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
Yep, you called it! Yeah, should I manage to see 700' and have not found Will, I will more than likely dump points into Will.

I meant, free action, of course. hehe

I might be inclined to pump stealth instead of will and perception... what can't see you can't (usually) hurt you :)

Although, without sprinting or vanish, I guess that approach loses much of its utility.

Stealth might indeed be the ticket. I just would be so ridiculously out of my element I wouldn't know what to do. Wielding a sword of fury, which pisses everything off, is really much more to my liking. None of that waiting by the corridor crap, just come on in!

Wonky challenges are a lot of fun, and they really showcase the depth of the game. I had a guy I was messing with at one point who I only dumped points into evasion and perception. With concentration and focused attack, I didn't do too badly! I think I died to boredom, but it was a neat concept. I would've liked to have gotten to master hunter but I never made it.

I guess I'm just too paranoid for stealth. I just assume they will see or hear me, no matter what my ability level, and then what? It takes a different kind of confidence to play a thief. Thief. I always preferred Doom, or Quake. :) Damn, now I'm going to go play Doom and it's all your fault.

The Evn/Per character sounds really interesting. I had no idea that was possible, and would love to see such a character on the ladder.

There will be a 'nightmare mode' for Sil in the future aimed at people like you, but this is currently scheduled for 1.1, and before that will be 1.0.3 and possibly 1.0.4.

I can't wait! I still can't handle human though, so if it's harder with Noldor than this current version with humans I doubt I'll stand a chance, but it will be fun to try! After this guy bites the dust I'll try a few more perception/evasion characters and see if I can get a decent one running around for the ladder.

That was a fun ride... it's been maybe a month since my last Sil character. Heh, that sounds like an addict speech. Hi, my name is HM, and it's been a month since my last Sil character... Death to overly aggressive delving. The longsword of fury I was using to draw in the 3 werewolves awoke shadow worms, unbeknownst to me, until it was too late. The werewolves took much too long to kill, and one remained, and the adjacent room, my only exit, filled with darkness.

On 13.6.2012 16:32 Scatha wrote:
Nice going. I don't know if it would have been enough to save you, but it's just possible your herb of rage would have let you win through past the worm masses.

On 13.6.2012 16:47 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
That probably would've been wiser. I actually just wanted to walk out and try my luck and dart back in when the werewolf darted behind me and sealed off my exit... I thought I had killed all the werewolves!

I got to thinking that maybe I should've tried putting on my sustenance ring and aggravating sword and hoped for some rock eating nether worms to save me on the east or north side. I'm too brash, I should've spent more time contemplating. Again, another thing that's not my forte'. The reason I play warriors with lots of hp becomes clearer and clearer... :)

It would be awesome if staves of light paralyzed shadow worms -- or at least did something remotely effective against them :)

On 13.6.2012 22:52 half wrote:
Staves of light normally stun light-sensitive creatures (including shadow creatures) but the worms might be immune to this, and in any event it is not going to make that much difference. A herb of rage would make a lot of difference as you don't need to be able to see them to get the extra attacks.

A month is actually quite a long time, since Sil was only released 5 months ago.

Wait, was this also a no-abilities challenge character? This is pretty crazy.

It's up to you Psi! Maybe I'll try my hand at a regular 3 challenges with abilities and see what I can come up with.
