Decided to change up my strategy in building a polearms specialist by making her grind out the first 500' using swords and making a good kit... found 3 forges already, and now...

I'm sitting on Orodruth :/

800xp in the bank, need 1500 for artifice :( I doubt I'll be able to rack up 700 more XP down here, most of the floor has been explored already.

What would you make with a 3-use forge @ 20 skill if you only had Armorsmith, Jeweller, and Enchantment??

Actually, I could get up to 22 Smithing if I eat my last Lembas and dump the rest of my XP into it. (Still have -1 drained from Gra from forging Blessed Realm.)

You may be able to pick up more of the XP required by using stuff in your inventory to identify it. I've done that in the past to get artifice and then realised I can't make what I want anyway as it requires further XP... ho hum.

The kind of things you can make without artifice seem a bit of a waste at Orodruth - +2 shield of Deflection is always nice for example. How much is a lanternTrueSight these days though?

Turns out I actually needed 2800XP, since I still need 2 more points in Smithing before I can get Artifice... I thought I was already at 8pts.

I was hoping to get a +2 dex ring but that's way out of my league right now. I think I might just treat this like a normal forge and make a few things that I'll find useful along the way :(

The truesight lantern is a good idea... might also get a +1 blessed realm to replace my +0. I dunno about the deflection shield, I'll want to upgrade to a 2-handed weapon sometime soon.

Although maybe I'll just switch to my 3lb longsword to get the strength bonus and keep the shield on... I always die to wargs. The extra evasion + protection might help :)

A terribly stupid death. I should have just run from the giant, I'd already killed a few and so the XP bonus wasn't worth it. Got trapped behind some orcs, and the fear from my slay-orc axe didn't kick in soon enough to save me. Also, I totally forgot the herb of Rage :(

If I'd had any charges left on my _Sanctity, things might have been different... stupid cursed ring of damage :)

So, what did you make in Orodruth?

Yes, giants are very nasty, especially for characters who use protection against regular foes: their damage is so high that protection doesn't work so well.

@Scatha -- Lantern of true sight, kite shield of deflection +2, amulet of blessed realm +1. None of it really game-changing. If only I'd pooled my XP a bit better... I'm always hesitant to sit on huge chunks of XP in the early game, though.

@half -- I'm not used to them being able to hit me! I usually play high-stealth, high-evasion characters who are able to chain-critical them and dodge well. Although, Nan and Gilim have one-shotted several of those characters in the past...
