Planned for him to be a singer heavy armored combat singer, but found Anglachel before I would have taken Slaying, and have been cutting through mooks like a hot knife through butter since. A few situations have been... slightly more problematic. Cat warriors were laying on some serious hurt until I took Critical Resistance, and there have been... incidents... involving dragons and single digit hitpoints. I really need to learn to leave dragons alone.

Currently standing on a 2 charge forge, considering my current smithing options. Also debating whether or not to dump Belthronding. I really want to keep it, but with this build, it really doesn't make very much sense.

Crazy.

My problem with Danger-inducing items is that I always start running into packs of cat-assassins at 900'+. Those things are no joke when they turn up in groups. You have some crazy HP and protection, though, so maybe it will be easier for you to deal with.

You don't have Artifice, so I'm not sure what you'd replace Bel with that would be any better :) The -1 evade isn't a huge deal, is it?

Are you thinking of getting whirlwind attack, stun, or knockback anywhere down the line?

Here's the 1st part of the crash report - I can post/pm the whole thing if it would be useful, but this looked like the actually informative bits.

Even if you do scare away Anacalagon, he won't be afraid to breathe *fire.* His fire breath is very dangerous. Get double resistance, at least.

Wow! Great work plucking Ringil from Ancalagon's hoard!

I'm sorry about the crash. The log file was very helpful, and I've worked out which line of code was crashing, but I'm still not sure why. It is hard to debug without being able to reproduce it (it would be trivial then). I'm going to leave it for now, given how uncommon it is and how level generation crashes don't lose you anything with the backup auto-save. Do keep me posted if it happens again though.

Oh, and good luck with the endgame!

On 3.6.2012 17:00 jujuben wrote:
And I did it. Not a V killer with this build. Damage output was just too low. Maybe if I'd found more forges, I could've, but I had to make do with "only" regular artifacts. :)

Went back and killed that black dragon, but not by choice. Set of horrors kept him in the dark until it was too late to really avoid him, but at that point he went down in 3 rounds and didn't manage to hit me. Thankfully he didn't breathe.

Used Saithnar for the 2nd silmaril, and with speed and Vanish, the ascent was pretty trivial.

On 3.6.2012 18:05 debo wrote:
You can put speed on a ring?!?!?! OMG! I thought it was boots-only!

On 3.6.2012 21:37 jujuben wrote:
Yup. Speed can go on ring, boots, and body armor, iirc. The ring was my least powerful available equipment slot at the time, even taking into account the extra couple points I'd've had to play with on an armor. One of my older victors had a ring with both speed and +1 damage, courtesy of Orodruth.

On 4.6.2012 12:43 half wrote:
Good work. Interestingly, your ring's Latin name almost passes for Quenya.

half, I have some minor fixes which may be connected to the crash above, which I could e-mail you if I could find an e-mail address anywhere connected to Sil. (I don't have a forum account.) I was running into crashes on level generation (on Linux) that ended up with a corrupted save-file: when it loaded, I was on a single-square in the upper-left corner. I haven't since these fixes, so that suggests they're the cause. A couple are related to using randint where rand_int should be used, and another checks an array value before making sure the index is within range (instead of after).

On 9.6.2012 13:38 half wrote:
Wow, thanks jdh. I'll get in touch via email. randint/rand_int is a potential nightmare -- what were they thinking with that naming distinction?
