While I'm taking a break from 'Hugo Bloke,' I have patented another Fingolfin Stealth Masterpiece. This time, I started with 2-4-5-3 stats. Current stats are 4-6-6-3 (STR =4 , thanks to the Great Axe of Nogrod and extra STR point from Melee tree!) I invested in Finesse+Sublety, thinking it might help with scoring criticals. I might pick up Knock Back and maybe Exchange Places, if I have enough EXP. Right now, I'm closing on Morgoth. My max depth is actually 950ft. Knowing that my min depth is only 850ft, I still have time to scum around for more goodies before facing Morgoth, once again. Let's see how this goes...

Here I am, again, awaiting before the down staircase to the Throne Room. Like Hugo Bloke, chances are that this might be as successful or even better, as a 'Stealth-Charger'. We'll see!

Here's what I have for our 'Sil-tographer' just before the descent to the Throne Room...

- Pre-Throne Room -
Stats:
STR 5
DEX 6
CON 7
GRA 4

Notable Abilities:
Sprinting
Vanish
Exchange Places
Finesse
Sublety
Stun
Knockback
Majesty
STR (from Melee tree)
DEX (from Stealth tree only)

No Crowd Fighting
No Critical Resistance (yet)
No CON (Don't need it when my CON is at 7 already)
No DEX from Evasion tree (Would be nice)
No Rapid Attack (yet)

etc.

I picked up Exchange Places, even though I don't use it often. But hey, it's good for emergencies!

Inventory:
14 Herbs of Rage
8 Herbs of Healing
5 !Quickness
6 !Miruvor
16 !Healing
2 !Elemental Resistance
6 !STR
6 !DEX
10 !CON

I have some nice pieces of artefact armor: Maeglin, Fingon, and Maedhros. Currently, I'm wearing the Mail Corslet of Fingon because of the CON bonus.

I only have two artefacts weapons here: Nogrod and Azaghal. The Great Axe of Nogrod is a great weapon, no question. There is a problem, however. These are my only weapons, currently. I need some extra weapons for taking out the 2nd and 3rd Silmarils, if that's what I plan to do. I might sacrifice Azaghal right away, which is more probable since I already have Finesse+Sublety. As for the other weapon (for the 3rd Silmaril), I'll have to find another one before the Throne Room, or afterwards.

With this guy, I think I have a fair shot at killing Morgoth. Maybe...

Time for a break before the final descent to...

So far, so good. Continuing on, I descended into the Throne Room. This time, I was to able to infiltrate the western area, and effectively one-hit 'steahily-charge' kill off all the the Easterling spies WITHOUT letting them break tension!

Got Sil #1 out already with Nogrod. Had quite a hard time getting it out. Finesse+Sublety and/or Rapid Attack didn't help here. I did recall doing '5 points' (in RED) of damage to the Crown, when the Sil 'got out.' I already tried fighting Morgoth and he's too tough right now. Although the 3rd Silmaril will curse, I get the 2nd and 3rd ones, anyway!

Taking the crown with you is impressive, particularly when you're lugging around a spare long corslet(!). If you can get your strength permanently high enough, it is possible to take the crown all the way out, but we didn't want to make this too easy (hence the weight).

On 18.4.2012 19:28 HugoTheGreat2011 wrote:
Still hacking at the Crown at 950ft. Morgoth is North from here, but is blocked by his own rubble. I found Calris, and used it, but no dice. I've been using ALL weapons, even Nogrod, to get the 2nd Sil out, but no luck, after many, many tries, like > 100+ attempts. Fortunately, none of my weapons have shattered. I tried to to turn off Power, and this helps somewhat for Amrod and Azaghal. I've been quaffing !DEX to increase chances of doing criticals with the one-handed weapons.

The Crown's protection is really high for the 2nd/3rd Sil. The closest I've gotten was 15 less than needed to overcome the Crown's defense, which was 60 something. Though this sounds confusing, I have done a bit more damage, I'd have a chance at the 2nd Sil.

I have to admit, getting Finesse+Sublety is 'useless' for a regular heavy-weapon user, like this one. I could have saved those points for Song of Sharpness. I'm running very low on !STR.

In the worst case scenario, I'll have to ascend with only 1 Silmaril...

I found a enchanted forge on the same level. I think this is a chance for me to get Enchantment, and make a weapon of Sharpness, while I'm at it.

So, I picked up Enchantment....Not a good move. Because 'Sharpness' was not even shown as an option. This is probably available, only via Artifice?

YES, I won the game!

I made it to the Gates of Angband, buffed myself, and killed Carcharoth on the way out.

I won the game again, but with ALL 3 Silmarils this time, not to mention that I took the crown with me out the Throne Room, for a couple of floors. I eventually left it behind at 650ft. The journey could have been more epic if I took it all the way to the Gates of Angband.

As a winner, this character had far more game turns than anyone. This was due to my poor judgment with EXP...Picking up Finesse+Sublety and getting Enchantment from the Smithing Tree, etc. EXP wasted on the wrong abilities. And it took me *forever* to get enough EXP to get the Song of Sharpness. Ater killing some 200 Gwathraukar and Vampires, they started giving only 1 EXP per kill.

The the entire journey from the beginning to the Throne Room, and then ascending back, plus getting all THREE Silmarils, was fun!

*MAJOR SPOILER* (Read no further, if you're not ready...)

Yes, you can bring the Crown with you if your STR is 8 or higher. If it is less than 8, you won't be able to carry it at all! If you are carrying the Crown, and your STR drops to less than 8 (!), you will be stopped from moving, until you drop the crown. The crown is *extremely* heavy, and will slow you down *a lot.* Make sure you stock up on many !STR, a lot of them! When you carry the crown with you, pick strategic places to put it down, before your STR goes back to normal. Or you'll run into trouble! :)

Other than that, I didn't know that I was the first Sil player to lug out the Crown out of the Throne Room, and the first to do this with two characters. What's funnier is that I did this while I lugging a Long Corslet and Mail Corslet at the same time with my 'Sil-tographer' character.

All comments welcome! Thanks in advance, everyone!

Wait a minute:
I retract what I said about STR minimum for lugging the Crown. The STR does not have to be 8. It had to be 8 for both this guy and 'Hugo Bloke' because the large amount of stuff I was carrying. , in order to carry the Crown, realize that it weighs *A LOT*. Carrying it over-burdens you. You need enough STR to carry ~100-150 lbs more than your current maximum capacity, to even be able to carry it, at all. I think this approximation sounds about right. I don't know if half or Scatha think it's okay to state the exact weight of the Crown. :)

Everything regarding about the Crown and how it can stop from you from moving is still true, though.

The crown's weight is no great secret: it is easy to find out in game. It weighs 400 lb -- minus 0.2 lb for each Silmaril you have cut out of it. There are no special weight rules concerning carrying it, it is simply a 400 lb item that you can do with as you will. However, you may not have encountered the rule that you can't lift more than 150% of your weight limit (or can't move if you are carrying that much and your strength decreases so it is over 150%).

Carrying the crown counts as carrying the Silmarils it contains (so you will get double the number of enemies on the way up), but it doesn't trigger the curse (obviously).

I think someone needs to carry it out. I'm sure it is easier if you take off all your armour first...
