I finally got my stabby guy to work out :) The advice to rush to Vanish really helped, but I was also just plain luckier than before.

Check out that shortsword! Not sure if I should ever be using the 1.0lb vanilla one instead to get a better critical chance, haven't looked at the exact math in a while... isn't the weight used as a denominator somewhere? If so, I could be getting double the '!'s :)

I think I'm going to relax with the abilities for a while, and just concentrate on upping Melee, Evasion, and Stealth. I might gun for the +1 Dex and +1 Str upgrades... then I could get the extra damage side for my shortsword, and I'll want it for Delmereth if I'm lucky enough to find it...

Oh, and I just found out I'd been wearing an Amulet of Danger for the last 400' :S Amaranth is a survivor!

Would welcome any advice!

Just looked up how combat rolls work -- the weight contribution to criticals isn't as significant as I thought. (Still very significant, just not a raw divisor as I'd originaly thought.)

In the worst case scenario, get 'Mind Over Body' from the Will tree. It slows hunger. :)

A swift end to a promising character. I got a little cocky with Sprinting + Vanish + high stealth. A couple of false floors sent me to 850', and I haven't spent much time playing at that depth. I should have trawled around a bit higher up until I became more comfortable with things, and netted some better equipment. I also should have started using my staff of revelations to find forges -- I needed better stuff badly.

In the end, I snuck into a Fire Drake's lair to pick up a potion, and a Kemenrauko just walked right in and threw down an earthquake. I quaffed !Quickness to get out of it, but I should have ran farther back in the lair to make the dragon unwary. Instead, I tried to dodge around it, and it got a powerful swipe on me.

Oh, and Delmereth was on this floor :) Next time! I'm not convinced it would be better for me than Dagmor was, anyhow.

Question: Would Rapid Attack be useful on a character like this? How about Opportunist? I notice that when Cruel Blow causes an enemy to reel, it occasionally walks backwards, which I assume would trigger another Opportunist blow?

Looking at that last set of actions -- do I lose a turn if I try to walk through a wall? If so, can we change that? I might have had a chance at survival if I really did lose a turn to a false directional keypress!

No, it doesn't use a turn. If you do notice something like that use a turn, then let me know as I'd probably class it as a bug.
