Haven't had a chance to play for a while, and when I have played I haven't been very successful. I'm trying to "collect" one winner from each type (Noldor, Sindar, Edain, Dwarf). Had one Sindar in the bag but he died on the way up because I was stupid, so here I am trying again.

This character took a lot of generations to get down here, until I remembered to slow down my key pressing just a bit.

Happily, and I think for the first time ever, I found a good Silmaril-chopper-outer at 950', but the sheer satisfaction of killing a Grotesque made the investment in Sharpness worth it. I hung around more than I probably should have at lower levels, but otherwise I wouldn't have found that sweet sword!

Anyway, at this point the chopping and exit should be rather straightforward, I hope. No funny business this time...

...Okay, maybe a little funny business. The finding of Belthronding meant a change of plans, since I actually became able to kill some stuff.

Good times, good times. No killing of Morgoth or getting 2 or 3 Silmarils for me, but I did what I could manage.

"Lothwen of Doriath went deep into the pits of Angband, and found there many lost treasures including her King Thingol's own sword which she rescued from defilement. But the greatest treasure of all was the Silmaril won from Morgoth Bauglir through great peril. Also were slain many of the Enemy's powerful servants, and thereafter Morgoth's power was greatly decreased in Arda."

That's one weird build you've got there :)

Congrats!!

Congratulations! I can't imagine wandering around without killing anything for so long!

debo: I must give credit where credit is due--all of my successful characters to date have been inspired by Satyr's speed-dive sneaker/singer builds. But I don't get a kick out of speed diving, so what you see is a variant of my "explorer" build as it has evolved.

Psi: Hehe yeah, I can imagine. I guess I kind of enjoy exploring more than wading through mobs of foes in a constant drizzle of blood. But I'm going to have to figure out how to fight and smithy (both of which I'm rubbish at) if I'm going to get a Dwarf winner, so I might be studying your dumps pretty closely...

I'm a little sad that this character didn't have a Filthy Rag of Stealth, but alas. A previous generation of Lothwen (there were many) found the Filthy Rag of Dungalef, which is probably my most interesting/funny find so far. That's right, there is a Filthy Rag artifact. Sadly, it's not very useful to most of my characters most of the time.

On 11.4.2012 22:01 Scatha wrote:
Hey, not only is there a filthy rag artefact, it's canonical! (just about)

Seriously, though, congratulations. And good luck with the Naugrim. It's possible you'd do well to train yourself to a different style with the Noldor for a little before trying dwarves.

Scatha: Yeah, I love it! I love how you guys adapted Should I look for an artifact of Nereb as well? In general I love how you guys have adapted artifacts for Sil. Aranruth is interesting, for example. Is Anglachel in there too?

Re: the Naugrim, yeah, I'm debating whether or not to try a Feanorian first. I might just go for it and see how it goes.

Yes, Anglachel is in there, and is similar to Anguirel as you would expect. They only differ in the curses they possess.

It was quite dedicated of you to take Aranruth all the way back with its Danger curse!

Nereb doesn't have anything at the moment (but I guess the Curved Sword of Nereb is a possibility!). Yes, Anglachel is in there (along with its twin, Anguirel).

half: Well, I figured, would any self-respecting Elf of Doriath come across Thingol's own sword in Angband and leave it? Just think: if the Silmaril lets you marry Luthien, what does the Silmaril _and_ the sword get you? ;)

The only potential issue I had because of Aranruth was that a handful of Unmourned joined me at the surface just after I got there. That was a little scary but didn't end up being a problem.

Those darn swords of worth. Always tricky little bastards (*rimshot*).
