An archer. I had a bit of trouble getting her started (and am behind the pace), but I've been growing quite powerful and might now be able to dive a little and also to start finding all those nice mid-game items. I've just picked up Crippling Shot which will probably be excellent for me. The main danger now is if I get surrounded. Perhaps I should start getting some Stealth?

I should probably pick up Focused Attack to get my +7 to hit, but I've found investment in Keen Senses and Listen to be worthwhile and Focused Attack is now 1,500 which is pretty expensive for this stage. Then again, +7 to my first attack is quite amazing.

I haven't played around much with Dailir yet, but perhaps in combination with Focused Attack and some Stealth, a (+36) first volley might lead to quite a few instant kills.

I should add that while the Falathrim are probably the most natural archers, Feanor's House are also pretty good (since they have the +2 Dex and smithing can be useful for an archer), as are Finarfin's House (since Perception abilities are so useful for archers).

The Falathrim are a point of Str and Gra down compared to a Feanorian, so I agree it's not obvious which is best.

Good going here, anyhow! How much are you managing to deal with everything at a distance? If you rely on melee sometimes I think the first point or two investment there might be worthwhile. With versatility melee is effectively double price, but it starts out so cheap that that could still be a good buy.

Occasionally things get close, and I'm quite good in melee. However I'd been on 28 Health for quite a while and was aware that if, for instance, a Troll got two hits on me in a row I might die. I agree that a couple of points in melee is probably worthwhile, but it is rather tempting to try to win with no melee.

I had been progressing very well. I'd made a 0.9 lb shortbow of radiance for use with rapid shot. It worked very well, but used too many arrows. I think I was unlucky here as I had Careful Shot and was willing to make more arrows for myself at forges. I ended up switching back to the Longbow of Doriath and singe shots. I become excellent at Stealth, and with Listen I was a great hunter.

Sadly, I was slain after two earthquakes in a row by this Kemenraukar. I failed to hurt it with my bow and thought that I might be able to slay it with Angrist, but after a hit and then a near miss causing an earthquake, I ran away. Unfortunately I had to risk one more attack by it, which ended up being another near miss earthquake for 19 damage. I suppose it is a little surprising that something like this hadn't happened earlier as I was quite brittle.

A very fun character though. I recommend others try archers in Sil -- there have been very few and I think this is because people aren't aware of how streamlined archery is in Sil. Combining archery with Listen is particularly fun.

Looking at the last messages, I see that I actually had to withstand two attacks, so I really should have healed myself. I hadn't even drunk a single Murky Brown potion this game.

I just noticed the size of my experience pool. I wonder what I could have put that towards? Perhaps some more evasion. As you can see, I wasn't having much difficulty, wasn't needing the experience much, and wasn't expecting to die!

I think more Evasion would have helped in this case, in order to avoid getting hit by earthquake rubble. Correct me if I'm wrong.
