Here is my next attempt. As you can see I am diving alot faster this time, though I am not sure I will be able to beat the 20k turns. I am planning to get song of sharpness some time before the final fight since that seems key to both killing morgoth and getting silmarils.

I actually got loremaster this time and I got back 1800 xp immediately just from it identifying things i was carrying... pretty nice 8D

I am also much more stealthy this time and got vanish which is making it easier to dive fast.

Aeglos, nice! I've never seen that before. I can't imagine too much resists cold, but I don't know for sure. Even loremaster doesn't seem to come out and say stuff like, resists acid, fire, cold, light, etc... like V does.

On 4.3.2012 02:11 Ferian wrote:
Ya I just have to look at the rolls window to see how many dice its rolling to tell what it does. I am planning on getting my evasion boosted soon so I won't be as reliant on the item bonuses I get from orcrist and my shield of deflection, then I might use aeglos more often. Of course by then I might have a better weapon, but it will always be nice against fire monsters for sure since it is then a 3d9 base damage.

On 4.3.2012 02:37 Ferian wrote:
Actually it does seem to tell me if things resist or are vulnerable to fire/cold, so that is included in lore master

On 4.3.2012 03:00 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
But it's not in type 20 font with bright corresponding damage colors. What am I supposed to do, read the entire entry?! Please ignore me. Carry on!

On 4.3.2012 03:22 Ferian wrote:
BTW I see why people love angrist - it appears to have 100% negation of armor. Cool!! So it is actually the best weapon for removing silmarils? I haven't updated my dump yet but I just found angrist.

On 4.3.2012 04:00 Ferian wrote:
Does keen senses allow you to see creatures cloaked in darkness (as if you had +1 light), or does it only allow you to see noncloaked creatures just outside your radius?

On 4.3.2012 12:34 Ferian wrote:
Well I dived pretty fast, but when it came time for me to decide if I would try to beat ewan's speed I knew my character was not quite ready for the throne room, at least not for the task of killing morgoth. I am almost ready now though... last task is to get that song of sharpness and a few more evasion and melee. My new axe seems promising for killing morgoth, but it did require me to invest alot more in melee to make up for the melee penalty. Still, from what i've seen it will take uber damage to kill morgoth.

On 4.3.2012 12:50 Ferian wrote:
If I have angrist which cuts through armor 100%, does that gaurentee I can get all 3 silmarils even without song of sharpness? I'm not exactly sure on the way it works... does a silmaril always come free if you get through the armor to damage the crown, or do you have to do a lot of damage past the armor? has anyone ever gotten more than one silmaril out without using song of sharpness? I was looking at the rolls as i was trying to get the second one and I could see that it had some really ridiculous armor (all the armor rolls were way beyond even my maximum damage with my biggest weapon).

I am also thinking that this time I will kill morgoth BEFORE even trying to get the silmarils so I don't break my best weapon before the big fight (unless of course it turns out I can get them all easily with angrist)

On 4.3.2012 15:13 HallucinationMushroom@Yahoo.egg wrote:
Angrist will probably break when you attempt the second silmaril, since that what happened when Beren used it in the Lay of Luthien. It happened to one of my characters. I'm not sure what would happen if you use Angrist for the 2nd or 3rd Silmaril as your first attempt with it...? Since I'm a pessimist, it would probably just break.

On 4.3.2012 18:08 Ferian wrote:
Ha! I suppose that given the story behind the game they could have hard coded it that way. And i guess they might have wanted to avoid having an item that could gauranty an easy 3 silmarils. Has anyone else ever gotten more than 1 silmaril with angrist? I know i have read accounts of people getting the last two with anglichel. I used anglichel to get the first and it broke on the second... Hey i wonder if whatever weapon you use to get the first will break on the second... Or maybe the first "success against the 2nd will just break the weapon used. I think that fits the pattern of accounts. Has anyone ever gotten the 1st two silmarils without a breakage on the 2nd one? And has anyone had a weapon break on the first one?

On 5.3.2012 10:02 Ferian wrote:
woot!! Morgoth is dead! I finally managed to get a complete win with morgoth dead and 3 silmarils! I was perhaps a bit over cautious in my preparation for the throne room because I really wanted to kill him even if I didn't get the lowest turn count. Now I will have to see if I can do it even faster... I will have to ride the line next time and just dive into the throne room even if I'm not totally buffed out yet. By the way..

***spoiler****

I suspect I have figured out the patter of breakage. The first silmaril will not break your weapon, but the second silmaril will always break your weapon on the first "success". Since I suspected this, I used angrist to cut the first one, followed by Narsil (with song of sharpness) and Narsil broke as expected, then i switched back to angrist again to cut the last two out.

Congratulations! (and hmph I'm down to 4th now...). Did you go for Morgoth with the mattock?

On 5.3.2012 10:35 Ferian wrote:
No, actually it is kind of deceptive that I am weilding the mattock at the end... I only used it to clear some rubble a little before Carcharoth and then forgot to switch back afterwards. My real weapon was Nogrod. with strength at 7 with a potion and the two damage +1 rings worn. I was able to knockback/charge/opportunist him in the throne room while my song of slaying was still making my melee skill super high.

On 5.3.2012 15:04 ewan wrote:
I believe you're right on the Sil weapon-breakage, fwiw; I have had exactly this pattern every time.

And congrats! That is a *lot* of evidence for Eru that V can and should be killed off... :)
