Having a good time with this character: it's actually the furthest I've ever got with a Sil character!

He's had a bit of a hard time, though. I had some really hairy moments at about 400 feet, where I was being constantly swamped by monsters, including groups of Wargs that were really quite tough. Eventually I remembered the ring that I'd put on a while ago to try and figure out what it was: presumably it was a ring of Wrath! Taking it off fixed that problem!

He's also just survived a near-death experience with a young fire-drake and some Greater Werewolves. I was on 2 hp at one point, which was scary!

However, I've finally found some decent weapons (just found Narsil :)) which is making things a lot easier at the moment.

Okay, things got a lot better from 800 or so feet on. I subdued the Deathblade Delmereth, which gave me another awesome weapon, and then the axe of Gondolin as well. I've just cleared out a few vaults which yielded Aranruth as well!

I hadn't been able to find any decent amulets, so I rushed Jeweller and made myself a +1 Con amulet with some gloves of forging +3 that were just lying around the forge ;)

I've also put a few points into stealth to get opportunist and (soon) exchange places, which should be helpful with the escape.

Just about to head down to Morgoth for the first time (gulp).

Good luck getting a Silmaril! You have indeed got a lovely sword collection now.

I couldn't help notice: 950ft seems an odd time to start investing in archery. What's the story there?

Yes, good luck with the throne room! It is very difficult the first time, but then you have excellent melee and evasion. Be sure not to become gorged or you won't be able to drink any potions -- that is a sure way to die.

Escape!!

So, the throne room was actually prtty manageable. I had tons of potions (partiuclarly of Con), Herbs of Rage, and my Con was already quite high. I managed to kill most of the unique stuff floating around in there, but I hightailed it before exploring too much. Morgoth and his fricking earthquakes!

The escape had some hairy moments, but was fine overall. Nothing except Morgoth posed any threat at all, and I'd got Exchange Places by this point. However, I didn't have any Staves of Revelation, and I failed to find any on the way up... but once I realised that Staves of Freedom clear rubble, that made my life a lot easier.

The gates were amusing. I got up to slaying +25, by which point I was one-hitting several surrounding orc-champions etc. It was quite satisfying to have the chance to take on a horder of lower-level enemies and verify that, yes, my character is now quite badass ;)

Regarding the archery, I'd had quite a lot of success just using archery to snipe down fleeing enemies. Finding a nicer bow reminded me of it and I just invested in Precision as it was cheap! As it happens, I didn't use it much (except to kill the odd annoying cat assassin).

I didn't know about the gorging thing, that would have been really irritating!

One thing that I'm beginning to think is that Charge is just a bit good. I was deliberately trying to make a melee character without Charge, but I eventually caved in. It's just so useful! Possibly too useful..
