But, I destroyed it by accident because I wasn't paying attention while swapping on the Greatsword. I saw the {special} shield. Then, I destroyed it...Whoops! I forgot that THIS un-IDed shield was THIS artifact... Grrr.

Apart from that, and with some exceptions like the Iron Crown, they just function like normal items. They are uniformly immune to damage from the elements, but I'm not sure they should be ... Angband is normally a long game which tries not to give the player permanent setbacks apart from death; Sil is a short game which is happy to have such permanent setbacks.
