First crack at this, going OK thus far. Taking usual approach of going to subtlety, stealth, and hence (we hope) critical hits; so ignoring the Song of Slaying I was forced to take :). Very long but not dangerous slog to get the deathblade; something has changed in 1.0.2 with regard to criticals or something? Otherwise just reaching a level where I can take on decent opponents. Thought about smithing but don't have the expertise in that route even before it apparently got nerfed; so pretty standard char with some diving for the comp. Will be ineresting if kit does not improve b/c there'll be a tough decision when and how to go for V, I think.

This got posted as a non-comp character (sorry, Pav!) -it's the same guy.

Winner. My standard approach; the initial hits on V didn't do much and the follow-ups certainly weren't going to take him down this time given that I was going for a fastish win.

Would like to know why I was scaring things so much during the chase back up, but not complaining!

Your version of Turgon is feisty. Look at the # of !'s in a row in the messages. Wow!

On 23.2.2012 05:46 ewan wrote:
Yeah :). That was the basic aim: sneak up, pause for focus, then backstab.

Well done and wow that was quick too. Going to take a kill of Morgoth to beat this methinks...

Wow. All three Silmarils, and very fast. We did actually make things quite a bit harder for this kind of character during the pursuit (+5 perception for all monsters, and lots of extra monsters if you have more than one Silmaril).

You were probably scaring light-averse enemies because of your light radius. I guess actually there's a case for enemies to get a morale boost on the way up too.

Aha! So there's another benefit of not finding a shadow cloak this time: scaring off vampires (especially) who are difficult enemies. Very cool - if I had known that I might have retained the helm of brightness and such.

You can see from the inventoy that I was much less replete with supplies this time around, a further consequence of going for speed. I could have trimmed a few turns but not too many on the way down - on the way back up I could not resist detouring on occasion to take out the odd unique or monster clump.

One big difference this time from last s that I actually used Stealth mode a fair amount, and that probably cancelled out the boosted monster perception; I was also much more careful about sticking to walls and corners rather than wandering blithely across rooms. The first couple of pursuit levels were tough - lots of monsters and no staircases for a long time - but even V would generally ignore me walking right past him as long as I was in Stealth.

Am I right to think that some monsters started to flee while theoretically being unaware of me?!

On 23.2.2012 16:21 Jungle_Boy wrote:
Great job Ewan! It seems like that much light radius ought to cancel out some of your stealth or something. Unless monsters just think it's an empty blob of light.

On 23.2.2012 16:30 ewan wrote:
Thanks! Yeah, that came up in a previous discussion - I think that I agree, but it would make things very tough if being stealthy meant one had to be dark - some monsters would become I think impossible, so that the gameply cost is likely too large.
