It's like Turgon, only spicier.

This song of slaying has been mighty nice mainly for allowing me to spend points elsewhere while keeping my melee up. With my first find of Celebrimbor's gloves and a spear of the vanyar, a few +1 Str rings and a +1 con amulet would be very cheap to forge, should I find one. I'm currently at that place with my character where I like to ditch the whole sword and shield routine for a good two-hander, but I'm reluctant. With parry, Arunruth is giving me a lot of evasion and at +3 to hit, I'm probably getting the extra-odd critical to make up for the damage disparity between Glend. I really should turn on the dice rolls, but I like to focus on the action at hand and just infer the dice rolls by how fast the stars fall, or don't fall off and at my hp loss. Some sort of message that conveys, "critical strike" that I could easily glance up and see would be much appreciated.

All in all, a fun character so far. He is totally within my safe-realm of builds, nothing new here. I should've posted my stealth-charge character, he was fun. Sneaky sneaky sneaky, whammo! Shhhhhhh.... whammo! By the way, being able to charge while in sneaking mode probably should't be allowed. I haven't checked in 1.02, but I could do it in 1.01.

Aranruth was a pretty spectacular find from Boldog, and you seem to have been making nice use of it. I would imagine it's largely better than Glend (you get +4 to hit, +4 evasion, +3 Will, [1d4] protection and better criticals against an extra damage die and an extra damage side, and danger, I guess). Of course a large swap weapon is a good idea against some foes.

There are problems with disallowing charge with sneak mode -- it doesn't stop the main problem of using sneak mode to approach and turning it off for the attack. But I can see there could be a problem with that archetype. I'd like to see someone break it!

There is a message conveying criticals already, actually. The number of exclamation marks on the 'hit' message is equal to the number of bonus critical dice (applies to both you and the monsters).

Easy fix for the sneak mode disabling before attack would be to set p_ptr->previous_action[0] = ACTION_MISC when disabling SNEAK mode manually.

And on-topic.. nice artifact finds, I can only hope for some of those!

Ah, that's good to know, I never noticed that. I'll keep my eye open for the !'s. I'm probably just too used to FA, or O, or other games where it says stuff like, OMG you SLICORED HIS FACE OFF BOOYAH... which I kind of like.

By the way, the bonus to attack from Slaying is directly proportional to your Song score, so if you're still using it you may find it more efficient to invest a bit more in Song before you go back to boosting melee.

I've squandered my advantage I had in time, now sitting at 700/700. Good to know about the song. I'm considering getting sharpness and more evasion.

There goes a very promising character! I got Gothmog down to a star, but something breathed on it for the kill. The enemy was very crafty in surrounding me. I had no idea there were so many R's around. I thought there were only two, or maybe three at most! I was gleefully flanking them over and over until all the lights went out.

Yeah, I saw all of 2 of them, then every square around me suddenly went pitch black. Uh oh. I had used up all my healing in the corridor fight with Gothmog and pals. That would be a cool childrens program. Today on Gothmog and Pals, we are going to vivisect Terragon, the lowliest spice.

A scary death screenshot. Still, nice work getting down this deep.

You get the experience points whenever an enemy dies, by the way, no matter the cause. We figured that if you can manage to set it up so that one enemy kills another, more power to you!

After I watched some tv I realized, why didn't I grab whirlwind and go down swinging? I might've come out alive!

Herbs of rage could also functioned for temporary whirlwind. But perhaps you would have been best fighting for the stairs? (Or is that what you did?)
