I'm feeling good about this character...pumping evasion up makes taking on giants pretty easy, because while they hit hard...they don't hit often.

Right. And you're stealthy enough that they can't find you in the first place :).

Ewan: Good point...now I need a permanent light source, cause all of my stealth gear makes everything dark around me : (

I had a close call with a spider of Gorgorath, two greater werewolves and cat warriors. I was caught in a web btw when I was surrounded and attacked. lucky for me I had a lot of potions on me so I managed to survive and get into a corridor and kill all of my attackers. I've gotten into a few bad spots but I've been lucky enough to have the right buffs for each occasion.

Hmm, this character is a lot more powerful than he seems on paper. I can knock a vampire out in one blow...if they are unaware. I can also knock a Red R out in one shot too. but I'm still being careful. I found the mail of Durin but its too heavy...I don't know if I should keep it. Opinions?

I would carry it as a swap if needed, and dump some of those staves to avoid the weight penalty; also that halberd.

Glad to see you picked up Assassination -- I thought it sounded good with such serious stealth gear.

On the other side from ewan, I would probably keep the halberd as a big damage weapon for when you need to kill heavily protected or critical resistant enemies. I think that's marginally more important than the swap armour? (But they're both nice.)

Goddamnit!!! I got killed by a dragon...I eat a herb of rage and I though that it would have given me more hps...I was resisting fire(dwarf mask). Plus the dragon was down ***. What happened? Do dragons always do the same amount of breath damage? Oh well at least I made some real progress and I can see that my template is pretty good. Its just hard to tell what is good character wise. Honestly the last young firedrake when down really easy...I don't know why I had so much trouble with this one.
I guess it clawed me, but like I said I thought that with the extra hit points from the rage herb I would have been fine....a grey R was right behind me too...but I thought that I could have taken them on...oh well.

The claw attack is (+18, 3d11) which is really quite powerful, hitting you almost half the time, and doing 4d11 on this occasion. You were probably a bit unlucky to miss twice and to have a critical against you (since having a high dice attack is a proxy for weapon weight for monster critical chances, it is quite rare for 3dX monsters to get criticals), but then again when you die, it is normally a period of poor luck.

Also, I should clarify that Sil doesn't use the old D&D convention of dragon breath doing damage equal to their current HP. Young fire drakes breathe for 16d4, but get two less dice of damage for each extra square you are away from them.

Dragons are very tough, but easy to flee from so I'd often advise this -- it did seem like you had a good chance with that Halberd and Dwarf Mask though. The ideal places to fight territorial monsters are near a corner that you can duck around as they won't pursue you.

On 11.2.2012 12:53 Scatha wrote:
This does indeed look like you were a bit unlucky. Part of the strategy of the game is gauging when you can safeguard even against very bad luck or when your best option is to count on things going your way.

By the way (you may know this), items which boost your Con (like herbs of rage) increase your current health in proportion to the increase in your maximum health. So you get more benefit out of them if you use them early in a fight before you are seriously injured.

On 11.2.2012 21:22 Fendell Orcbane wrote:
I didn't realize that the hp boost was related to the CON boost....Honestly I don't feel too bad about this death, because it was the result of me doing something kinda dumb. I tend to feel crappy about deaths when they are the result of random things happening...like wandering monsters of crebains out of the blue.
At least now I have a build that I KNOW works pretty well.
