Newest installment, and it's a good one. Right now, I'm having a really hard time deciding what to keep and what to throw out. Any suggestions? On this level of 700ft, there are extra potions of Dex and Con, and a Staff of Light, that are lying around because I just have too much stuff to keep...

Keep the potions. I would ditch staves other than Revelations. Ditch the amulet of Regen and the spare lanterns.

nice greaves - why not wear them?

The Pair of Steel Greaves that I am currently wearing was pseudo-IDed as Free Action. Unfortunately, this is my only source of Free Action. I keep this on as a precaution against slowing and probably entrancing effects too.

I actually had a really bad, perhaps traumatizing, experience with a Spider of Gorgoroth, during which I did not have Free Action. Because of this, it entranced and did some triple critical hits that killed my best Finarfin house character (Celethrone) a while ago. :(

Yes, those spiders are very nasty as their entrancement attack is also a big damage attack, so they can keep you entranced through multiple attacks (a bit more like Angband paralysis). Free action also helps against webs, so it really is good against spiders. Then again, your strength is probably high enough for the webs now, so I'd keep the free action greaves as a swap.

I sometimes hang on to a Staff of Freedom specifically to deal with Webs, but as half says you can probably deal with those by brute force. On the other hand you have a first source of fire resistance already, so if you're generally finding combat easy at this depth there's an argument for paranoia and keeping Free Action. But at the least, remember to switch over if it looks like it's going to be a tough fight!

Ok, I have bad news. My save file for 'Mighty Fintar' is not working anymore. When I try to re-open, it shows the character screen. It might be possible that I overwrote this save file by accident... Ugh. I opened the savefile under Notepad (in Windows), and all I can find is gibberish, and no trace of any last messages for this character. I have a bad feeling...

It shows the character creation screen, and not where I left off.. :(

Are you sure you didn't die? If you open up the save file for a deceased character, it takes you to the character creation screen and you can just press 'enter' to make all the same character creation choices as the previous time (except experience, which isn't treated as a birth choice).

I'm positive that Mighty Fintar didn't die. I may have overwritten it by accident. After posting the latest dump of this guy, I created another new character with a similar name, like Mighty Finwe, who died and whose savefile replaced this one by accident...
