A different take on the People of Haleth from the recent relatively successful ones form Satyr and half. For the early game I played this essentially as a combat character, running when need be. After getting Sprinting and Subtlety, which were my goals in Melee and Evasion respectively, I turned to increasing my Stealth and picking up useful abilities there. I'm feeling like things are starting to come together, but I am worried.

I'd like to pick up the following:
- Cruel blow (to give me extra time to make good my escape when assassinations fail)
- Focused Attack
- Listen
- More stealth and melee, of course!
(Song of Silence, but I think this must be much further down the line)

I'm not sure which the best order to go for these is. Advice from the gallery welcome!

For once I can't find much to fault with my play here. I was doing very comfortably at 550ft and had had only one bad experience at 600ft, in which I had tried to kill a werewolf but failed and had to run some way before it lost my scent -- twice.

I stumbled into a web and a Shadow Spider descended from the gloom. I equipped my Spider Slaying weapon to give me more light and hence halved evasion rather than quartered if it saw me. Then I tried to break out! This was the second web I'd run into in this game. The previous one I broke free of in perhaps three turns, certainly before I was noticed. Here I had half a dozen attempts to break free before the spider stumbled into me, at which point I drank a potion of Con to give myself more time. I contined struggling to get out until on low health, when I drank orcish liquor (the healing potion was unidentified). This last may have been a mistake versus simply struggling further, but it was pretty much over at that point.

I had tested every Staff I'd found for freedom, and every Ring for free action. Would I have been better fighting from the web, maybe after equipping the shield? I suppose I might have bought Song of Freedom, but I hadn't felt that I had room for luxuries. One almost wants weapons of Spider Slaying to help cut through webs, Sting-style!

Ah well, I guess I just got unlucky here. Anyhow I think something like this build has a lot of promise for taking an Adan into the deeps!

I had thought to check that I hadn't got a potion of Strength to help me here, but I hadn't thought of the Herb of Rage. I'm not sure how much one point would have helped me versus taking the extra turn trying to escape (also it would have been best at the beginning, at which stage I expected to end up with either more or fewer turns than I did in the end). But that might have helped a little.

Some notes: I wasn't always using my leather armour or the helm, as without these I was under the 10lb stealth threshold. I was generally in pretty good control of what was going on, able to pick my fights and usually make a fairly good job of them, but leaving myself a sensible escape in case they turned out poorly. The nice Glaive was a swap weapon for dealing with critical resistant enemies (Sulraukar; worm masses). I was able to kill most things in the dungeon, but some I didn't bother with after the first couple for the experience, and molds I didn't bother with at all.
