I don't even feel bad about dying...its to the point where I feel like the game hates me. Or rather that the game itself is unfair...basically I feel like I can't do too much to control the fate of my character. I guess its kind of like an ironman game without escapes of any kind. So once you get into a situation like mine where you are trapped with an endless supply of enemies you are just fucked.
Basically I was being has quiet as I could and some wargs just found me out of the blue and so I started to kill and move so that the Trolls which were nearby wouldn't hear and come join the party. Then I ran into a giant and a room full of shadow worm masses which I managed to escape only to be caught by enemies on both ends of my escape rout. Still I put up a brave fight and took a lot of warns out plus that giant that I ran from in the first place. There was nothing that I could have done not to get into that spot and nothing that I could have done top get out of it either.

The game is definitely harsh and on occasion randomly cruel. But I'm not sure that's as unfair as you suggest. Of course the first thing is normally to be careful not to get surrounded, but even then there are things you can do. In this case it looks like part of the problem was that you were trying to fight the trolls where you were in line-of-fire of the Easterling archers. I can't tell where the archers were from the screenshot, but if they were below you you could have stepped up into the corridor; the troll would follow you and shield you from the archers until you made it around the corner (and then perhaps Elbereth would help). If they were in the corridor stepping to the right so that you weren't in line of sight would have helped.

It happens that your defensive strategy was based more on evasion than protection (particularly since a couple of your items were damaged by acid), which is particularly vulnerable to hard-to-dodge arrows.

Well by the time the easternling archers came around I was in the red already...I actually fought off a lot of wolves and trolls. I'm guessing that the archers just came on to the level.

Yeah it was based on evasion...since things like Trolls and Giants hit really hard I feel like its better to evade than to soak up the damage. Of course this depends on the equipment that you have...

I guess what messed me up were the Worgs...they are the worst. Also they are faster than you...btw maybe its better to wait to go down since it seems like diving doesn't work as well in Sil. I don't know...I do know its possible to win though...
