Another good one on the rise. I found Hurin again at 250ft. This time, I've been able to put it into good use. I just need to up the Melee and Evasion, and Power, as soon as I get the chance.

Now, my character is a monster. I am liking the Bastard Sword I'm using. Check it out!

Cruising along at 800ft. But, the game says, "Min depth = 850ft." Uh oh...

Anyways, I'm still doing good here. Right now, I have close to 2,000 EXP. Where should I spend these points? I gotta get resistance sooner or later.

By the way, I bumped into Scatha the Worm on this level and killed him, although I had a close call. My HP went down to ~10. Yay, nevertheless!

That's a pretty little collection of artefact weapons you have there.

Nice! I'm going to have to get on the charge train with you guys as everyone I look at seems to have it, and I've only tried it once! Keep an eye out for a digger. I'm assuming only shovels or mattocks can clear rubble (or a special instrument) and I saw a few monsters that left behind rubble when they died and some that caused earthquakes. Though it never happened, I was really stressed that one of my first few deep characters was going to get completely trapped. I have now passed this stress to you. Enjoy!

On 24.1.2012 19:24 debo wrote:
Yup, you need a digger to clear rubble.

Charge is almost overpowered in early game, not sure how good it is in late game b/c I never get that far :)

Charge is a fantastic opening move and also great when you use it strategically (orcs that wont follow you into a corridor, erratic movers, non movers) but it doesn't stack with focused attack or assassination, so it's not perfect (If you can charge an unwary monster with a +15 to hit though, it's a guaranteed hit!)

Life is getting pretty scary at 950ft. I have fire and poison resistance, but not cold. Oh man.

The game says it's time to go to 1000ft. Uh oh.

Also, I just found a a Set of Gauntlets of Power (+1). I think I'll have to ditch the Set of Gauntlets of Gamil Zirak, since I probably won't have any chance to do any smithing.

I was powerful enough to knock out all of the Troll guards, but when Morgoth showed up. Boy, did he unleashed his wrath. I was able to knock off and put on a Silmaril, but then, I got stuck, because I had no access to any available digger...

Uh... maybe I did, since I could have burned some points just to forge at least ONE digger. Sigh...

I'm wearing the Silmaril right now....

Man, this could been the first Fingolfin descendent winner for the ladder...

Excellent work! Very close to being a winner.

Forging a mattock would indeed have been a good idea if you hadn't found a shovel/mattock/trumpet of blasting by that point. I sometimes take weaponsmith and forge one at 100 ft. Having at least a shovel really is essential by 600 ft or so.

Yes, a digger or Trumpet of Blasting would have helped you here. There are also some abilities which might have let you escape: Exchange Places is the most obvious, but also a more effective Song of Elbereth, or even Cruel Blow.
