Several things went wrong:
1) Ran out of sources of food very early. I ate an Herb of Emptiness more times than I was supposed to, because I wasn't paying attention.

2) I *HATE* Octowraiths a lot, because they can cause hunger

3) My main body armor had Regen (which increases hunger), which I did not know until it was too late.

4) I wielded the Vampiric Greatsword longer than I should've because it took a while before its identification kicked in.

Yeah...I forgot to get the tombstone dump. I somehow was able to fight off that Octowraith, and destroy it. Afterwards, I hacked at any nearby worm masses to restore HP wherever possible. Unfortunately, this guy died due to a Shadow Spider. I was visibly able to fight the punk down to 1 star, but it did the final blow, killing off this character. Sigh.

Good work there being able to see a Shadow Spider. One thing to be aware of with hunger is that it stacks and is multiplicative. So two sources of hunger means 9x the hunger rate. Sources of slow digestion each multiply it by a factor of 1/3.

Also, hunger increases the effect that Oathwraith attacks have, but by a lesser amount. For each source you have, it increases by a factor of 3/2, or multiplies it by this factor of 2/3 for slow digestion.

Hunger effects on items thus provide a balancing mechanism to their power: you have to wear them for a short time only, or balance them with slow digestion, and certainly avoid more than one at once.
