Very much fun here - but now, do I spend some EXP on smithing for this forge and get better stuff, or hold off and plus my skills?

Opportunist + sprinting+ Charge is awesome!
Next is stun for me!!

Hmm - Methinks I'll go squish a few baddies to get to 3k exp, then pop for armorsmith, enchanter, and artistry.

I should be able to make some rather nice things for myself, then.

Okay, slept on it - I'm going for +1 smithing, armorsmith, and enchant. don't want to bite off more than I should.

That way I can make a mail corselet of resiliance, gloves of dexterity +1, leather boots of free action, and a lesser jewel of brightness, then eat and quaff potions and be much better off than before, plus still have a little exp. left, just in case - and I'll probably put some in will (& song?), since something was entrancing me, and nearly offed me.

Now that I think about it, I'll try to post notes when I make any decisions, then I can review my errors later if (when) I die.

Sounds like you have a pretty good plan worked out there.

Sooo stupid.
When I first attacked the deathblade, I took it down to three stars - didn't realize I'd charged it.
I just kept hammering away, thinking I could squash it like everything else, then I couldn't get away.

Next time - remove the shield for the extra evade and accuracy, as well as increased damage, and probably spring for critical resistance - I'd have beaten it if I would have taken that route - stupid triple criticals. :(

Yes, Deathblades have very high protection [5d4]. Quaffing the potion of Strength would have been a good move here too. Even better might have been to quaff the potion of Strength and use the Mattock for (6d7) damage, or eat the Herb of Rage too for (6d8). That would make short work of it. Also, there is always something sad about dying with potions of Orcish Liquor, Healing, Quickness etc. Perhaps it did a surprising amount of damage with that last critical though.
