You not a little bit worryed about R_water (and very soon R_Pois) at this point? very good going so far- a bit worred about this knocking my incredable luck off the top earler than i had of hoped. Actually on second thought have you considered trying out one of those scrolls of *curse equipment* despite the autosquelcher destroying them they can reallly boost some artifacts if you were them and then read one
seriously though your improvemnet attempt on attempt is very impressive, and do get R_pois pre '2000 or you know what will be offscreen down a stupidly long corridor out of a room in the exact rightmost line of the map which is the only line you diden't detect. and then ytoull survive it. and then the novice warior will finish you off. seriously this variant LOVES to throw drolems at you.

Yeah poison is starting to be an issue, good timing for Rohirrim to show up so I don't need that ring anymore. As for res Water... no clue, the only way to get it in right now would be the amulet at the cost of 100 mana, and I have no idea if I even need resWater more than say resDark that I also don't have.

The first spell in Mordencainen's is very powerful! For 5 mana it absorbs currently around 100 damage. I just killed medusa by pointing her with my toothstick of the night. Her best spell, plasma bolt barely does 100 damage so she was basicly only able to do equipment damage as long as I recasted absorb after ever big attack

Also found out the mixing recepy for !healing (which btw only heals about 120 hp). Anyone want to know? Should we collect the recepies in the forum thread?

A difficult quest at around 1800 was rewarded with a body armor of resist acid. I decided to quit quests after the next one. Of course the reward for that one was an artifact (feanor!) , and the next two had artifacts as well. Might do one more quest, or maybe only if it is something easy.

Finally found my first artifact weapon from a dragon. It does a lot more damage than all the other sticks I've used but it seems like it is impossible to get 2 blows with it..

Greater vault on 2300 ended with me falling through a trap door, lost Belegennon and Celeborn that I had stored outside, but found thorin. Cons is maxed (at 30)

Looks like you lost Celegorm, not Celeborn, which is not as bad. What are you doing for *Id*? Are you finding enough? Great looking character -- cubragol and feanor so early rocks. I guess it really pays to succeed in the hard quests?

Nope, far from enough *id*. A store service would be nice :)

The rewards are okay but my other guys, especially the second one, were a lot more lucky.I got several shield/armors of resist acid and a rod of lightning bolt, but also three pairs of speed boots (first +3, then +6, then feanor yay). I wouldn't call a quest on 2350 'early' though. I had to kill elder vampires and similar monsters for those. The monsters don't get much tougher than that.

nice find with feanor- and the one artifact i can never seem to get early even though i know thorins not suposed to be *that* rare, and as for R_water my uber luckey run took a few nasty breths starting around Dlvl40/2000' but nothing quite like the drolems. and i built up a fair few *id when i was at '1500 trying to find RShards, as they are detected by detect magical objects. Also (apparantly accoriding to the website) everything will id and eventually even *id* if used, however there was also a bug filed about ridiculously slow psdoid and use id so this is sort of a back up plan and why *id* is rarer than in V.

Gave up on a quest (and quests in general) on Saruman after using 4 mana potions while he kept healing himself. Started descending.
Found Raals but the spells are very expensive, I wonder how I'll attack the deep uniques.

Also found two Artifact spellbooks that can't be used by spellswords acording to p_class.txt. :(

Deepest kill is now Oberon the fairy, not to be confused with Oberon the second boss of Hengband :)

Also: 1000 hp with a hybrid at level 39...

Killed Sauron with the Acid Sword + the equipment I'm currently wielding. 30% disenchantment is not enough to prevent all disenchantings, but together with the artifacts own semi-resistance it wasn't too bad.

Will likely need a completely different setup for Morgoth. While I'd prefer to melee with all those uniques around, there hasn't been a single slay evil weapon all game. Avavir is only the third artefact weapon to drop all game. I've found more speed boots than that.

Leveled to 44 by killing Sauron so manastorm is available now:
Manastorm: 82 Mana, 360 damage, 39% fail
Manabolt: 50 Mana, 33d12 ~ 210 damage, 6% fail
Looks like it is the bolt then

Yeah the class is a little broken, i thought the stealth was the most ridiculos part though; and yes I was very worryed about the end game myself even though i diden't get as far as you. Also what is the logic on bailing for quests whouldent it work just to farm the level above each quest for the spefsific kit needed to deal with it, thus getting some awsome artifacts?

Also mabby the Bonuses to things lke Hp, Stealth, almost every spell were meant to be countereeed by stats maxing at 18/20, but thats not a huge problem with the prevalance of arts from quests. A no Art run of this charicter could prove very very hard imho.

I didn't notice a too strong/ too weak stealth and am not sure which one you noticed.. As for general game/class balance: Noone played this for like 5 years, so it is probably a little crazy compared to modern variants, but I'll reserve my judgement on broken until I've seen more classes/games.

As for quests: Yes you can prepare, but that takes time. Turns don't matter in this one but there is real time lost. Also at some point, the reward isn't really worth the risk, I mean, I guess you wished you hadn't tried that Dracolich quest ;)
I prepared with 4 !mana, which is much more then I would have wanted to spend there.

There is also the indepentent issue that this competition is based on who wins with the least experience, so even if that potential quest for 30 Hell Wyrms might have given that potential sword of *uberness*, it would also have leveled me to 50 easily, which is to much if you want to win.

Actually I'd say the best way to win would have been to do quests until 1000, then stop doing them and only kill high reward targets deep in the dungoen.

talking about winning:

I completely turned my equipment around. Cumbragol and Feanor stayed, everything else switched from Warrior to Mage mode. HP 1350 down to 1100. Mana 350 up to 680. No more resDis but resNether instead. I was really lucky to have found Saturn from Sauron so I could wield that wizard crown +8 mana. I would have died without it. Started with 18 mana potions, and used 17 of them.
For the last three stars I even had to change tactics from blinking to standing next to him to save mana by not letting him regenerate. Apart from the mana issues, no critical moment in the battle, but 2 douzen moments that would have turned critical or fatal when using 5% spell next to high uniques. I killed like 3 of the top 30, and the other 27 endend up on the level at some point.

Morgoth dies and drops.... nothing

Congratulations on your win, as for the wanting to avaiod exp i never even considered myself a potential winner of the contest, I was just trying to get to the end. As for stealth i found that i was able to walk adjacent to a *Lot* of things without even the slightest worry of them wakeing. yeah i am a bit annoyed with myself for takeing on the dracoliches, but by that point i was in the fatal mindset of I AM UNSTOPABLE, kind of explanes why my clean win was on a mindflayer master that had 372 hp at level 75 (furyband). Anyway Iv'e been trying the contest files on my own for a few months now and only posted this one due to obvious reasons, but i Think I'll start doing a few more of them as typeing up my stupid deaths afterwards really made me think about what i could have done differently. Shame about the mogroth bug acording to the spoilers its suposed to be a 40d40 which whould be um, nice?
