> You notice you don't have enough food to fully satiate you before the travel.
> You realize you will face the unforeseen dangers with a half-empty stomach!

> You have entered the blizzard-covered Caradhras.
> Legend has it that this mighty mountain is Morgoth's minion. In good weather
you'd laugh at the childish tales, confidently traversing the nearby pass.
Now, however, the storms of the mountain echo around you and the location of
the pass can only be guessed. Even if you manage to fight your way across the
treacherous precipices filled with snow, nobody knows where you'll end. Turn
 back, while you can!

Is the The Short Sword of Mithon worth anyting? You know you can wield it, as long as wield a throwing weapon in the other hand?

Actually, Edoras was a little diversion from Weathertop - currently scouring 20-24 for runes. It is not unlike the stat-potion scumming in worm pit in ToME, but a lot more fun.
I like the approach to stat potions - they moved in the same department as !Speed and !Heroism for me, to be quaffed for a quick-boost. I think there will be a bag for them deeper ;)

The sword aggravates, which is not too bad at the moment, but does not carry noteworthy resists or slays, so i actually like the current setup more - the pikes are just below the weight treshold for succesfull dual-wielding, and large hit dice, additional AC boost and runic-customised resistances are sweet. Though will swap for something with more blows eventually, and an easy-thrown artifact perhaps (hadn't found anything worthy in thrown department yet)...

Selfknowledge [~9] does not report for the off-hand weapon brand - is it intentional?

Maybe consider shortening the stats to abbreviations in ego names - ''a Pair of Leather Sandals of Dexterity and Agility [1, +1] (+2)" often extends beyond the length of the window, so
you have to 'I'nspect if you want to check the boni.
'a Pair of Leather Sandals of Dex and Agi [1, +1] (+2)" would remedy it somewhat, i think.

First trip beyond l24 (where drakes and other toughies start to appear) netted me some fabulous things, such as &Scrying, armor of HoldLife (it is as needed as rDisen, rAcid and rBlind due to their very irritating nature. But not swapping until i get rDisen from somewhere else) and a pretty dice-boosted cutlass.

Definitely keeping and considering swapping for dual-cutlassing - not yet, as the pike is my only rAcid for now, but for only -2AC and charge bonus x3 to x1, 5 blows is definitely an improvement over 3.

Although have to collect some more runes or wait for another ego-cutlass, resorting to boosting pikes with !DexAgi for now (it ups the blows to 5 on pikes vs 6 for cutlasses). Have I mentioned I really like Un's approach to stat-potions... and the fact that you can get them in bulk making them even better :)

Weathertop harbors great rewards and comes in small installments, perfect for doing a couple of runs when you have some free time. I think the design decision of Andrew to compress the levels to 0-60 was justified - each couple of levels feels different even at mid-twenties, and will hopefully continue to be so to the end.

Meeting many cold-resistant enemies now, i couldn't help but wonder: is =Flames brand transferred to an already ego'ed weapon? And is the off-hand branding considered at all?

Finding an acid javelin for an off-hand allows me to switch main hand weapon freely now, and armor of Resistance, while costing pretty much in AC, covers rBase twice

btw, it would be helpful if rBase cumulative reciprocal was explained in an oflag-type-tip, when it's implemented - it's not so intuitive. I only found it in a dump here. The way tips are done and can be added to is very elegant, and is a good way players here could provide some insights they gleaned, which are not to be recorded in official help. Not to be a hypocrite, i tried documenting this one http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/12/1/446912/res.txt

Caught Smaug in the ruins and properly decapitated him, the dived to the gottom in one go. The last level netted a neat throwing axe to replace my old and trusty acid javelin, and rearrange the other equip accordingly

Will switch the scimitar to one of the Exec blades once they are fully runed (Storm and Frost; wasted 6 or 7 waves not to get anything worthwhile), and perhaps change the artifact cloak to that (+4) Cloak of Shadows runed with Blood - I am very fond of +4 hp regen, it won't open a hole in resistances, and screw the detectin activation when I have -Detect and &Scrying)

The artifact armor has a bunch of high res, not worth switching the one of Resistance now, and (+0) to something, speed I think. A keeper, though ;)
Will do the battle of Armies, hoping to find some artifact lightsource, as it is the one piece of equipment i haven't revised in a long time. Some shiny insanely wxpensive stone will fit there nicely, or so I think ;)

"=Flames brand transferred to an already ego'ed weapon?" - yes. If you are wielding say a frost brand weapon and a ring of flames, the frost brand x3 applies unless a creature is immune to cold, in which case a fire brand x2 applies, unless the creature is also immune to fire.

"And is the off-hand branding considered at all?" - yes for every 2nd blow, which is done using your off-hand weapon.

Thanks a lot unandrew for clarifying the branding behaviour - it's exactly the way it's intuitively understood. All interface tidbits are pretty intuitive, and much useful - I have gotten so used to man/odj lists and trap/trap zone detection that it would be very hard to play a variant without them.
My only objection is that, with new damage rules, the average damage display like that in ToME (http://angband.oook.cz/screen-show.php?id=1505) is very much needed to juggle weapons succesfully, with all that edged-immunity and giant-can't-be-reached flags.

Maybe doing it as a service, like in Entroband (http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9/Shadramelk/weapon.gif and http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k9/Shadramelk/armor.gif, courtesy of my maxed out Amberite ninja, who had not the skills to html-dump them succesfully :) ). Filed is as a freq at Berlios

SVN is too complex for me to understand and use (beyond registering at BerliOS),and I don't think it will be needed that often. If the info-writing idea caught on, a corner of ftp-server with anonymous access and about a megabyte of free space will be simple and sufficient enough. For now, i'll just email them directly when I have some done.

In the unrelated news, tried the Battle of Five Armies. IIRC, according to the 'Hobbit' it was 'k' and 'C' versus 't', 'h' and 'l', not 'o' and 'O' versus whatever the @ race is, but pretty fine nonetheless, like a pumped-up version or the Orc Camp quest in Entro.

Had to retreat burning most of the !CCW due to multiple cuts, and consider swapping/rune-ing some equipment. Now with rShards Armor, "Regen(+3), (+5)Dex/Agi Cloak and excellent Stealth i think i stand a better chance. :)

(for my previous character, rune-ing the Cloak of Shadows with Blood gave it +3 H/M Regen. Or it was an unrelated enchantment on the same cloak? It's a bit finicky, mixing enchantments)

Ah, never mind, it was 4 Blood runes that give regeneration on cloak. Now we're off =)

The second time the Battle was a cakewalk, jumped into the fray and never was mor than 100 hp below max. No Arkenstone, alas, but a lite nonetheless - rShards/rDisease phial. Now, using helm of Seeing instead of Brilliance, I can finally switch the Instrument and try that bad-ass Blunderbuss waiting for me at Beorn's I've been collecting Gunpowder for.

Next goal: finding an ego Dwarven Longshot, some adamantium shots and going Ringwraith-shooting. Should be fun )

Like how the game forces you to fine-tune the equipment insted of having one steamrolling package - had to swap my favourite cloak for +20 AC and Telepathy one, as his tendency to run away was driving me nuts. Luckily I noticed the dagger of slay Nature I stashed for someday had slay man as well - he is immune to elemental brands, which were my staple of damage until now.

I'm pretty confident at dl38-40 now, though do not dare venturing lower. Will try to high-rune more executioner swords (experimented a bit with blunts and lightweight swords and found out charge helps a lot. Even the blade-immune creatures are no problem) - had one with 5d7 generated, but with +1 spell res it was useless.

It would be good if scrolls of Curse Weapon or similar erased ego status (and perhaps reduced/negated to_hit and to_dam) and blasted the weapon only if it's not an ego. Actually, I might have removed scrolls of Curse Weapon after an unfortunate low-level id-by-use accident. :0)

I see both ?CA and ?CW in object recall on clean install. The idea of ego-erasing fits the philosophy of no-outright-useless items Un employs, but it might be too powerful.

But then again, it might be not, and will just make customising a bit different, switching focus from finding runes/good base items to finding said scrolls.
--
Concerning that, I have an intention eventually to turn that stack of throwing hammers into highly-customised egos for each slay and brand for off-hand switching from quiver, for example - here ?CW would bne not as useful as runes are. With armor, it's easy to buy base items in town, rune and high-resist them useing services - those two Helms of Brilliances differ only in rHigh flag, are totally interchangeable and easy to mass-produce. So I don't see a use for ?CA here,
too. With most of needed flags eventually covered by artifacts, this hole-patching is what is needed.

As a bottom-line, ?CW indeed would be useful to clean out dice-boosted base templates, I think.

May I have something resembling a minor feature request, as developers seems to watch this dump?

As the main focus until 0.6.5 is interface improvement, consider the monster and object list. Reformat the passed string a bit differently, so that i.e. "2 Wild cats ('f')/('f')" becomes "f 2 Wild cats". This will save 10 characters and will greatly help in real screen estate department, especially in term windows.
Term windows are very useful and I depend in them a lot, but it's difficult to place them on the screen efficiently and not have something cut off.

Here's an example of the way I finally positioned them, this will hopefully illustrate somehow.
