But if you're not using them you have to be very careful about summoners. Enchantresses are dangerous for that reason, particularly if you aren't fast.

Your level was high enough that you could cast Haste, and you have !Speed. Why didn't you haste before fighting her? Enchantresses are definitely worth fighting, as they have the DROP_GOOD flag, but you have to prepare for the fight. It's also important to choose the ground that you fight on so that not too many summons are going to be able to have LOS on you- i.e., don't fight a dangerous summoner in the middle of a big open room.

It's always really hard to know exactly what happened from a death dump, but I suspect you could have fought her pretty safely if you'd prepared a bit differently.

I'd only fought one enchantress previously, and although it was a spirited battle, it wasn't particularly taxing. In retrospect, I should have tried to either teleport her away with the wand or teleport myself out, pick a better battle location, and properly haste myself beforehand. Like yourself, I'm not thrilled with the idea of using ASCs to defeat summoners. But if the alternative is to drown in a sea of evil? I'll dig them.
