Well I noticed pretty early on that horses suck. :p They have fairly good attacks but they just get killed so easily. I was starting to wonder if Riding was even worth the hassle, but then I tamed a wild Griffin which had a lot more HPs than horses and could take a beating. I rode him for a couple of levels before I found a Radiant Kavu that casts Heal Self spells all the time and has slightly better attacks than the Griffin. It should be useful for helping raise my Riding skill until I can find a more kick-ass mount (it won't be long before I'm at young dragon depths, I reckon).

Overall the Beastmaster seems quite an interesting Class so far - like a sort of Cavalry-Mage using Trump magic.

Haste Monster is a handy spell, probably makes the char twice as effective right now. He's at speed +17 on the Hydra when it's Hasted.

Shelob in the Forest was my target boss but she is rather too strong for me right now, I need to get more levels and better gear.

Finally found some good weapons - Anduril and Zantetsuken. Zantetsuken is probably the better on paper but the katana weapon class isn't 'suitable for riding' and you can't attack female monsters while holding it, so Anduril makes for a sturdy back up. I'm aiming to get !Expert in both long swords and katanas right now.

Hoping to find an Ancient Dragon to capture so I can level it up to the Great Wyrm version. I've not bothered with the Red, White or Blue varieties because IIRC their Great Wyrm evolutions are surrouned by fire/cold/lightning and you can't ride those without immunities.
