Trying out the latest version of Eddie's patch.

Spent a couple of characters attempting to minimize use of id as per the 'experimenting with minimizing id' thread, but my recent foray into munchknish ToME characters has left me with somewhat sloppy play, so I've returned to my more classic style.

Main gameplay effects of new id system in the early game has been finding out what {excellent} rings and amulets do when I run into appropriate hounds and vortices. Still making a practice of learning scrolls, wands, staves, rods and good rings through use. The next step is to start carrying ?remove_curse to id bad rings.

I'm still loathe to test potions on account of stat drain... the only way I think I'd change my mind is if I could test them by throwing them at monsters, or if the stat drain were temporary.

Anyway, this game has been fairly bland so far - not a single ego so far, but I never cease to be amazed at how far one can get with a well-rounded kit from town.
