I've been trying to speed-dive a gnome warrior with little luck, dying mainly due to lack of detection. So I decided to slow dive one, figuring I'd stay at about DL=CL at least until I got some decent gear. On a whim I decided to try random artifacts for the first time. Things were going pretty slowly for a while, I found the Phial, a poison resist ring, and a ring of damage pretty quickly, which was nice. But was having no luck with either armor or weaponry. Finally at CL 29 and DL 33 I found my armor of elvenkind. I then killed a small mob of novice priests and looked at their drops; there was a spear there which I almost didn't pick up, because, seriously, a spear? from a novice priest? But I remembered a dwarf priest of mine that had found a pretty sweet artifact 1d6 spear, so i figured I might as well grab it. Can't believe it was actually an artifact! And a good one--increases speed, strength, and infravision by 3. It's branded with fire and cold. EXECUTES dragons and undead. And between my armor and the spear I have both ResNether and ResNexus. My next trip down gave me an excellent feeling--a minor vault giving me the helm of seeing and a cloak of Aman with Poison resistance. Feeling good about this one--wish me luck!

Nigel finally maxed his stats. He's having a lot of luck with weaponry but not so much with resists and speed.
