Found the phial on the floor around dlev 8, lucky as I was down to my last oil. And at dlev 11 a nice elvenkind armor with rPoison. It wasn't enough, though.
At dlev 6 or so I risked wearing an unID'd ring which turned out to be of aggravate monster. Never did I find any source of remove curse so that was not really helping my puny mage. And not having found anything with free action was fatal to me here, something paralyzed me (I think it was an illusionist i detected before) and Azog, who I'd been avoiding, sliced me up.

Fun to see how some items are suddenly much more useful when recall is not an option and you're constantly low on stock. A staff of slow/sleep monsters or a potion of cure light wounds can suddenly turn into a life saver.
