Figure I might as well make some comments as to my playing style with this character.

Althea slowly crawls through the levels and mainly goes to the next when I feel she can smash through the opposition like Godzilla in a china shop. Obviously, she doesn't gain exp at the same fantastic rate as my previous (shorter lived) experiments, but she hasn't died yet either. Meanwhile, I alleviate my boredom by figuring out what loot sells best (it's a fun science) and reading the help files (I keep finding stuff I missed).

Incidentally, my policy of making frequent trips back to the town bearing wands and other magic items has given me two additional advantages:
a.) More visits to the town means more chances to encounter useful items for sale.
b.) Whenever I encounter a unique or quest monster, I'm usually loaded with wands and other fun toys.

I take the "difficult" quests mainly because I haven't found the easier ones much less likely to kill me.

I have a good bow and some impressive arrows, but I've never had any real occasion to use them. For the most part, I rely on bard spells, hand-to-hand, talismans, and racial abilities.

I love the bard spells; the ability to buff my character and inflict negative conditions makes fighting most uniques a matter of routine. I've read that the other spell casting types do more damage mid- and late game, but I've never gotten another character high enough level to compare.

This did in fact allow the game to run more efficiently, but it also had another effect: the OSX version has a significantly bigger window. I'm not just talking about graphics either; more content is shown.

In game-play terms, this larger window means that my rods of trap detection (which reveal all traps in the panel) now reveal a lot more traps. I've been able to sell off my amulet of perception and almost never use the "search" feature anymore. Contrast this with my earlier tendency to have auto-search on in all non-combat situations, and you'll understand why I might feel this is a bit cheap. However, running the less efficient version was inconsiderate to the computer's generous owner; I'm not sure what else I can do.
