I never realized warrior got 7 attacks "base" from level 40 onward until a few weeks ago or something. That sort of explains my recent splurge at doing "boring" warrior. I had always assumed it got 6 base as per that old heng max attack grid.

Anyway, started as beastman, stayed that until very recently, when I could easily cover confusion and sound. This is going to sound stupid, but I wanted to either be High Elf or Spectre -- largely for the magic device.

I have this odd vision of a studly warrior who can use magic device up there with other classes. Which is of course why I'm fearless. I'm not manly enough to go sexy right now.

I recently trashed my stats utterly via polymorph trying to get one of my preferred races. I ultimately failed, but got hobbit which has good magic device, and decided to cut my losses, at least for now.

I lost berserk, telepathy, and a couple other nice mutations removing vulnerable to elements that I picked up while polying over and over. I have to use cloak of jack of shadows to get telepathy right now I think, which will leave rShards open, problems problems.

I have extremely low AC by my normal standards, and have to be a bit more careful due to that.

On the plus side I do pretty nifty damage even though I lost an ok amount due to now bad str.

That's a heaping-helping of former races you've got there!

I just got Anabasis and Diatribe, which I felt I _had_ to use, but my resists would have been a bit off. So I ended up switching a couple things around, including my weapon. I'm wielding a ridiculous weapon for warrior, but hey, it has resist chaos/disenchant, and it's +3 attacks. Darn the 1d7 base. :)

Ps. I don't think I've ever had a base 240 ac, heh.

Beat the Serpent, this is my eq set I used for it. I went back to the Terror Mask for the Serpent (instead of Diatribe) to get my Legendary(7) saving through instead of Heroic.

I'm not going to retire right now, I haven't screwed around after winning the game yet, as this is only the second time I actually beat the Serpent.

I really wanted to find Spec on a warrior, we'll see if I try for that later.

My last attempt died, so I went back to screwing with my last win, my warrior. I desperately want to find Spec so I can feel all studly and hardcore before I retire. But it isn't coming, as of yet, at least. I finally found genji in the dungeon and did dual wielding a bit, but it's cludgy without spec. So I'm back to wielding 1 weapon with Anabasis. I also wanted a few mutations I didn't have, so I basically got all mutations that are possible (including vulnerable to elements), but I'm dealing with it for now. Have IMM fire of course, and I already got the serpent out of the way. And my 12 GWoP that I killed were from before the vulnerable, hah.

GIVE ME SPEC!

I'm kind of looking for either Spec or the Zombified Serpent, whichever comes first. I'm hanging on Angband 127. I did find Alberich, the last on my Justice List while looking for the Zombified Serpent.

I used it on a Diamond Edge +26 +27. I got +4 STR/Dex/Con and XDragon and Acid Brand. I suppose it's really not too bad at all. But I can't see using it ahead of my trusty Falcon Sword of Destruction.

I'll put up the weapon comparison on them so anybody who is curious can see.

Plus falcon sword gets 3 more attacks so berserk makes it even a bit better.

I have a problem with updating my death dump. AFC from the Chemist made my current exp 14 mil below my then Max Exp and I get an error that the current character with this name has more exp, and it won't accept the death dump.

This is what I tried to type in it:

Died while attempting the Chemist. I had him down about 1/3rd of the way. He'd already stopped time about 3-4 times before that, but he never did that much damage then.

But this time... AFC summoned lots of monsters immediately before he stopped time, and that's all she wrote.

I was quite unable to find Spec on this char. God knows I tried, hah. I ended up using my Artifact Creation Diamond Edge mainly because it was +4 con and I had had both +4 con and -4 con mutations, and my recovering mutation made me lose the +4, so I suddenly had 100 less hp. A fine incentive to try out my Randart Diamond Edge.

This character was fun. Man, surviving the Chemist while meleeing him seems like quite a luck of the draw. If there are many monsters other than JUST the chemist around when he stops time you are quite easily done in.

I'll update his death if the site allows me to. But the current vs max exp is stopping it now. I have about 2 mil more MAX exp than my prior dump.

Damn, I also realized I hadn't dumped since I killed the Plain Golden Ring. I had killed 249 Uniques, almost all of them but the Chemist. Anyway, I'll stop typing now, just was annoyed I couldn't death-dump.

On 7.7.2006 18:54 stile@imsa.edu wrote:
Hey, have you guys found any significant randart amulet or rings?

This character found my first ever randart of each. The amulet was terrible, and the ring was a {special} ring of LEVITATION! So I wasn't too excited, but still. It was pretty neat in that in all my characters this is the first time I've ever seen it at all.

afaik oook doesn't do any checksum checks, and i'd say noone here would mind if you just edit the .txt file to show your max XP as current hp, or at least old current hp+1. I'm kind of sure others were forced to do the same before..

I would have done what you said Mat, but by the time I checked it Pav had changed it.

Good to see you're finally dead. No... wait that sounds really wrong ;)

Ah, that's too bad. The Chemist is indeed a wrecking machine. My first attempt against him was just embarassingly bad. The character was a reasonably powerful crusade/craft priest, yet only managed to knock 1 star off the chemist before getting turned into a smear.

One weakness you had, IMO, was all those offensive mutations. 4 extra attacks/round mean lots of extra AFC activations without that much extra damage. My one successfull attempt on the Chemist (a Samurai) used Grond which doesn't do as much damage/round as you could do, but did a ton more per hit (slay human+*GREAT* critical hits add up rapidly when they're mutiplying a 9d9 base). With 1/3 the rate of AFC activations (plus an anti-magic field, so guaranteed no statue) life was marginally easier.

On 9.7.2006 04:35 stile@imsa.edu wrote:
Thanks for the sympathy and info on taking on the Chemist. I kind of knew I should have taken a higher base damage without +attacks per round, but I didn't want to. :) In other words Grond would have been a great fit. And yeah, the mutation attacks aren't that great, though they still have all your plus to dam behind them, so they still do reasonable damage, but probably not enough to make up for the extra AFC curses. If he didn't stop time he really would be so doable, but that's kind of stupid to say I guess, hah.

The AFC summons plus stop time just destroyed me.

I'm trying a high-mage now, after my obsession with the wonders of standard Warrior. I'm trying what seems a logical high mage, chaos. I looked at what you guys did, and damn am I impressed and kind of amused. Melee high mages on the scene! It boggled my mind, snicker.

Craft and Nature? Wow.

Going from Computer brain to moronic so utterly blows as high-mage.

But Grond has earthquakes... Without the quakes, Grond would be the ideal Chemist Slayer.

I didn't bother posting my high mage who just died. It was Chaos High Mage. I was able to play him ok, but it's so tedious and the damage is so horrid compared to melee characters. I just died at level 37 while going to R'hwhatever with an *acquirement* and aquirement scrolls, fast-whatever breatehed and knocked me to -1 hp. I might not mind archer, but high-mage the damage is just so not there.

Ok my rant is done.

On 23.7.2006 15:18 Mat wrote:
The damage defenitly is there (big if) you find the 4th book. I was lucky enough to find it even before the 3rd book dropped. If you don't find it, you'll have to enter chaos node quest sooner or later where you might find rockets do enough damage for 5 wyrms, or you might find out that dragons breath for insane damage when you only have some 650 hp :)
