Magic-Eater is one of my overall favorite classes, with its unlimited Healing and Destruction and Speed, so I figured I'd try that. Choice of Race was a bit more difficult. My real options were: Beastman, Draconian, Spectre, Golem, and Android. Ruled out Spectre because of low HP. Ruled out Android because I figured it would be too tough to gain the first few levels. Played too many Beastmen lately, so rule that out as well. So the choice was down to Draconian and Golem. Well... NoStunning and Stone Skin are *really* nice, especially in Nightmare mode, so here we go.

Lion Heart dropped the nice "Seven Tools" randart weapon (so far I only know that it's +4 DEX and Random Teleport). On top of that, Thieves quest gave a Ego weapon of Slay Undead, and the reward for that quest gave a Long Sword of Force. That's pretty insane luck considering items are supposed to be gimped in Nightmare. Stat rolls so far have been good too: only 1 useless roll (WIS) out of 4 random rolls. And I actually scored double-statups twice out of the 5 times. Oh yeah, I farmed White Worm Masses until level 7... ^^

All in all, a good start.

Sewer Quest's Undead Devilfish breathed Chaos and gave me Steel Skin! So, I have suprising high AC with that, Golem bonuses, plus Stone Skin.

Managed to just barely buy both the RoDamage(+14) and the Staff of Speed (had to Monster Arena a bit..), and that gave me a lot of starting power. Nothing interesting from Dlvl 6 quest, Mimic quest gave a small upgrade to RoDamage and ?oAcq gave Eowne, which I would only have 2 attacks with.

Money is a perpetual problem.

Oh, other nice thing. During Old Man Willow quest one of the Huorns dropped a Wand of Teleport Other!

Doh! While doing the Vault quest (which used up all three of my !oHealing), Nexus Hounds swapped WIS (my lowest original stat) for my DEX, and reduced my blows by 2. This was pretty much the worst swap that could happen, since Golems have at least pretty good bonuses to STR and CON. Oy. Sting's +2 blows helps counter a little bit, but still, damage is much much lower now. >_<

Playing in Nightmare Mode continues to be frustrating. I knew I might draw something way OOD for my Angband Quests, so I leveled up in Killing Fields to 30 before diving to 24.

Now, if I had drawn Bleys like Elliot did, then I woulda had a no-brainer abandon quest. Scylla, however... I had both RFire and RPois on the good side, but on the bad, I only had 1 !oResistance. And indeed, that was the part that made it most difficult. I had to backtrack several times after he breath and I ?oTeleport (first potion carried me a ways, but I also had some escorts to deal with, because pulling with a bit unsuccessful due to Arena nature of the level.

On the other hand... check out the super OoD drop: Anabasis! That's native to dlvl 60, so it's 36 levels OoD. Hm. I thought I also had +Speed? Guess not.

At some point, I'll need decent helm, gloves, and boots.

Well, that was impressive. A total of ZERO artifacts from Cloning Pits. No interesting wands or staves either :/ The item-drop gimping is really noticeable in Nightmare Mode. On the other hand, it looks like the Vaults aren't really affected by this.

There were quite a bit of summoning going on... 3 Balrogs, tons of Nightgaunts, Dark-Youngs, Bloodletters, minor demons, Hydras (which actually weren't bad at all, thanks to FireImmunity from Anabasis). The randoms were pretty manageable (a Baron, a Plasma Vortex, the real Queen Ant, a group of HE Rangers, GHB, and a few minor ones).

The only useful thing I picked up (other than the two guaranteed *Healing*) was a !oConstitution.
