After killing about half a dozen Dwarven Archers relatively early in their careers (don't ask me why that combination - just felt like it) I bit the bullet and rolled up a High Elven Archer. He seems to have quite a high life rating (or maybe the dwarves just all sucked - lvl 6 84 hps.....). His con is 18/20 and he has 326 hps at chlvl 21.....

Anyway - Never played Archers before but he seems to pack a decent punch. Gaining Fiona at Chlvl 20 has made things alot easier at this stage and the randard Armour ("Passion") with res Chaos and FA is handy too.

Decided to post him so I could tempt fate and watch him die in 5 minutes.....

We'll see what happens...

I decided to do the random quest on Angband 24 without poison

resistance in the hopes that I would not get the stupid green

lizard. Of course I got him.....

See screen dumps but basically he took me down to 3hps at one point

from full health with his Toxic Waste breath. Instead of doing the

correct thing I quaffed my only potion of healing at the time and

(U)sed my staff of speed then proceeded to use Seeker Arrows and

melee till he summoned when he was down to half health. Teleported

away, used CCW's cleaned up summoned Hydras and peppered away at him

again till he closed then finished him off at close quarters. Bit

risky but I just had to do it - luckily for me he only used the Toxi

Waste attack once. He didn't drop anything amazing - Just Rilia

which has poison res but even better than that is the fact that the

random resist on it is disenchant so it's good for a swap, or

dual-wield and just use missiles if needed down the track.

After that did the vault with very little problem. Only thing of

interest there was 1 potion of Con, Sting (which means I finally

retired Fiona (not a bad little weapon for a Dagger).

Now just need to level up and get some better gear to be able to

successfully undertake cloning pits.

Quaffed a potion of Self-Knowledge and he has a life rating of 108

and the rest of his stats are good except for str and int which are

both 18/70. Obviously Int doesn't matter but str might be an

issue... Will wait and see once equipment starts to fill out.

Just using a standard long bow at the moment but even that still

dishes out enough punishment with seeker arrows to comfortably deal

with stuff. Later on I can see that I'll be taking alot of ? of

Phase door and employing shoot/scoot tactics against tougher

opponents.

Currently on Angband 36 and picked up Arvedui, which was just lying on the ground next to some novice warriors, and it has Res Base + Shards/Nexus/Chaos so that went straight in to the kit.

Things are looking up (famous last words).

Oh and Elliot - you are right about the dwarf being a viable archer (2 of them showed promise) it was just that I was rerolling the same character and he had a life rating of 89 -Ughh - I've never seen such a low life rating before...

Fell through a trap door on Angband 36 and ended having to do Quest Monster on 38 before really ready.... Luckily only get Morgenstern and had a couple of charges on my staff of speed and plenty of Phase Door so just employed shoot and scoot... Dropped Himring with Res:Nether/Chaos/Poison on it. Saved it for later in case I need it...

Returned to Angband 38 and bumped into Mario... Was just going to take stairs down to next level when I decided to kill him anyway - He dropped something useful...

Gauntlets of Power (+3,+5) [+2,+6] (+4)....

Not earth shattering but the +4 is to Str and it sure beats running around at Chlvl 28 with plain old Gauntlets....

Now I just need to get rid of all my other crap gear - Still no Amulet of any descriptioin, plain headgear and look at my boots for goodness sakes..... lol

The Gauntlets boost my damage output from 171 to 225 a round with Sting... Like Elliot I usually don't tackle the Pits unless I can dish out @300 - Can't be too far away though...

On another note however I only got to use my revamped kit incorporating Long Sword of the Dawn with ring of Slaying & Ring of Damage combo (284 damaefor about 2 minutes.... lol - I went str8 in to Vapor quest and the first Noxious Fume breathed Toxic Waste which swapped my Dex and Con scores.... This gave me an extra 53 hps but knocked me down to 3 blows with the long sword.

Now back to wielding Sting (6 blows - 249 damage) and this allows me to wear Nether ring in second ring slot (only wield it one handed) - less damage but more hps still (@514 now - not 100% sure as I'm at work now) as opposed to 407 with Long Sword - probably better off this way anyway for the moment. Swapping the scores in the long term should'nt cause too much of a problem as Dex was limited to 18/120 and Con 18/110....
