At least learn Stinking cloud, phase door, detect monsters, detect stairs, satisfy hunger, teleportation and identify. those are quite useful and with low fail rates allow you to carry less loot. Makros are really usefull, especially with actions that require many key presses like shooting or casting spells. For more you might want to read the makro faq at tangorodrim, really helped me.
