Well one thing is already clear ... my innate CON is not 18/70 ;-)

I'll try to be more patient this time. I find that an early post helps in this regard ...

Burning sword came from the Thieves quest and Elvenkind came from an early chest. I'll need to stay put for FA and SI, though.

Scumming for FA and SI ... Got +1 Attack from a ring! And CON keeps going up, and up and up. Last 4 random rolls have been CON. Stat boosts have been 3 DEX, 5 CON and 2 CHR. I picked CON at CL10 and STR at DL20. Pretty lucky so far ;-)

I just hope I don't die before I can find FA ...

Reaver,

I knocked off Ancalagon with my monk at chlvl 38 but I think I was lucky. I had waltk through walls spell cast and I took him on whilst surrounded by walls on 7 of 8 squares. He kept trying to summon like crazy but nothing appeared. I looked him up on the monster spoiler later and realised that If I didn't have that sort of setup I couldn't have been able to take him. What made it funnier is that I had only @10 CCW's as healing but still managed to take him down. Probably a bit lucky to take him at that stage but he got me back by dropping crap.

Darn nice Crossbow, but is this Long Bow even better?? I need RDisenchantment, so for the moment, it will have to due ;-)

For only the second time I can remember, the Old Castle was *much* easier than the Cloning Pits. Pobably by an order of magnitude. But I had a tough run this time around, and that is pretty rare.

Still, I have the Glaive. And Pain shall be felt by all!

Go hobbit power! On the one hand, you're lucking pretty formidable right now. On the other hand, those are some significant resistance holes.

What does "resistant to magic" do? It sounds really handy for a warrior.

Have you considered spending time in the anti-magic cave?

On 12.9.2005 15:23 blackreaver368@yahoo.com wrote:
Why do I always forget about the Anti-Magic Cave? Very good idea ... Thanks!

Resistant to magic improves your saving throw ... not as much as Antimagic, but still handy (at least that is what I think it does ... I did not check source code or anything.)

Yes, resistance holes can be deadly, which is why I will hold my depth until something nice comes along.

Resistant to Magic gives +20 to saving throw, I'm pretty sure. I'm not sure if it stacks with the +20 to saving throw from Forcetrainer power though... it might be the same effect.

And actually, I think you're wrong about the "not as much as Antimagic," because I think the Magic Resistance stacks with everything, while Antimagic gives Saving Throw of min{95, Self}... or at least the ToME ones did... not sure if it's the same base code or not (I'm a coder, but I absolute hate reading other people's code, so I haven't source-dived yet at all :-P)

Antimagic is 90 + CL. So I should be Amber[?] by now. Note that 125 is required to avoid the statue effect of the Blood Curse, so Antimagic and CL35 means that Amberites are somewhat safe to kill ...

The +20 to saving throw for the mutation is consistent with what I have seen ... I think the ForceTrainer power is the same as Antimagic, rather than the mutation, but I don't like source diving either, so this is all just guesswork!

CL50 in under 12 hours ... that's got to be my new personal (non-berserker) record! Early telepathy, Early Zantetsuken and substantial time in the Dragon's Lair are all to blame ;-)

Just offed a Spectral Wyrm. Scary, but doable. So that's about how powerful I am ... enough to kill stuff, but weak enough to require constant caution. Its not like I can cast Healing or other such nonsense ;-)

I think I'll go back to Angband and quest up to DL76 ...

Stormbringer also has two really nice resistances, RNether and RChaos, and also +2 STR and +2 CON, which actually makes it a staple weapon for me in the mid-upper levels.

Must be a play-style thing. After playing through Rei Hino, I've gotten to love aggravate (and in fact, starting to hate Stealth, as seen in my fairly weak attempt at Rogue). By fixed artifacts, I mean normal (non-random) artifact, but I also mean "guaranteed drop" artifacts! All you need to do is defeat Stormbringer to get this great weapon! And you can usually detect it a mile away.

Not playing much lately... too much work to do before I leave and go back to the US..

Thanks for your comments, and I aggree wrt the resistances ... But remember when Stormy also had +2 attacks? I do ;-) Remember when vampirism was not capped at 50 hp/round? I do ;-) Aahhh, those were the days, and my impression of Stormbringer has been severely diminished in the last 6 years! I suppose the weapon is balanced now.

But I will have to give Sexy/Aggravate a serious go some time. And yes, if I were sexy, then I would be wielding Stormbringer and the Harness of Hell. But I value my stealth far far too much, and a sleeping Sky Drake is best left alone!!

Ah, I'm not as veteran at Heng as you are ^^ I only picked it up about 2 years ago, so I guess I haven't been spoiled by an uber-Stormbringer, and I suppose if I did play with that, I'd also be disappointed.

I think I favor Sexy because I consider Rei Hino my "best" and most satisfying win, because not only of the incredibly few resources she used, but also because she found 2 Sexy Swimsuits! Unfortunately, none of my later Sexy characters seem to have found any :/

Yeah, Sexy requires a decent amount of level-scumming patience, unless/until you have *Destruction*

This character is looking nice! 1100+ HP as a Hobbit!

Actually, the unbalanced Stormbringer was in an early release of Zangband. My best guess would be that for 1hp of damage you drained in combat, you received 1hp back. So you might be down to 300hp fighting higher dragons and whoooooomp, back you go up to 1000+hp. Completely unbalanced ... but ancient history!

Back to the lair to rebuild for more power. I'm still too weak! Found a special Executioner's Sword, but it was Crisdurian. Can't seem to shake Fundin's ball & chain. Not a bad weapon, but hardly awe-inspiring.

Oh, no! I loved the hobbit warrior concept and it looked like you were really on a roll, too.

Atlach Nacha with his +10 speed and puny melee attacks seems like he should be a pushover, but he has SO many hit points that he can wear you down. Think about it this way, even if you had rDark, it would have taken half again as long to kill him, so he would have had more opportunities to summon or hit you with stuff.

The timing on that quote was too perfect.
