Reached 1M exp and updated to 3.0.6-alpha1. Submitting the dump to celebrate this. :) Just hoping that there aren't any fatal bugs in this version!

This character is doing fairly well. Human mage seems like a nice combination: quick levels really help early on as you get higher level spells faster. Starting INT of 18/30 instead of 18/50 never felt like a big problem.

I've got a glaring resistance hole and I know it. No rConf, which is starting to feel somewhat dangerous. The problem is that I "need" +CON and ESP from Dor-Lomin, so I can't wear Thengel, which is the only available source of rConf currently. Calculated risks, I suppose.

Played a bit today after a nice few months break.

Putzed around some and reached clvl40 and the depth of 2500 feet. Feeling very rusty indeed. I found a BronzeDSM so now I've got rConf covered. Stat-gain practically done, pondering my next move. I figure I'll stay around these depths for a while at least, to get back the feel of things. Then it's probably Power-Dive (tm) time.

Clvl41, dlvl61.

I haven't been playing that much, so no big changes. Very recently I found Carlammas, which was just what the doctor ordered: got 18/200+ CON now. Too bad I can't say the same about INT yet.

No significant encounters with uniques, except Saruman, against whom I took a few rounds and then tactically retreated. He'll have to wait until I've got at least rDisen, or alternatively the Grimoire of Power. Or both, preferably.

Current target depth is 4000', where both Speed and Kelek's await...

On 8.7.2005 02:50 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
Currently at 4600'.

I have found some useful stuff. BronzeDSM was replaced with Rohirrim, for one... and of course speed is getting better all the time (currently +13 unhasted).

There are plenty of monsters down here I just cannot or will not fight yet. As far as uniques go, 56 are dead. Dwar is the deepest dead one. I've fought Khamul, for one, three times now but each time he summoned Feagwath and I can't take both at the same time, the primary problem being that Feagwath comes with escorts that pass walls (big liches) or go through them (Black Reavers). Not yet.

I have to start killing some of these pesky uniques soon, though, as it's getting quite crowded on many levels! For instance one level featured Tselakus, Khamul, Ancalagon and Baphomet... not in vaults either, just standing about.

Oh, and one major improvement in my kit! Hand-gear (Cambeleg)! It took until 4600'! Seriously, I didn't see a single pair of dex/fa-gloves on the trip down.

On 8.7.2005 10:05 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
Heh, played a bit after waking up and had one of the most amusing and scary Angband experiences: I was happily descending the dungeon, fighting a few good monsters here and there and checking vaults. Then I saw a violet 'p', which was walking towards my location... I assumed it was the Mouth of Sauron. Closer inspection, however, revealed that it was Sauron himself! I had accidentally gone all the way to the temporary bottom of the dungeon. This startled me just a little bit and I decided it might be a good time to take a five and submit a dump or something. I have to start paying attention.

On a less scary note, this character is developing well. INT and CON both at 18/200, permanent speed +20, and so forth. No sign of Kelek's, however. Lack of rDisenchantment bothers me as well. Just these two little things, and I'd be able to start serious unique killing...

Character level is 45 (currently drained to 44 by Azriel [R.I.P.]), dungeon level is 98-99, and unique count 59/97, deepest kill being Maeglin. Still plenty to do. Oh, just finished statgain after killing Azriel on dlvl98 or thereabouts.

On 9.7.2005 16:36 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
The effort of killing uniques and gathering equipment carries on, back and forth dungeon levels 97 and 98.

I still haven't found Kelek's, nor have I found anything that would allow me to get rDisen into my set (Belthronding would be most welcome, for instance).

Dead unique count is 63. Huan is the deepest one.

On 9.7.2005 16:48 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
Forgot to mention. Decided to go toe-to-toe against Tselakus and he kicked my ass:

With door creation, I was able to create a good battleground where he couldn't summon and where I could stand on a glyph and smack him with my axe. This was a good strategy, except that he casted darkness storm virtually every other round. I got three stars off him, but then I had to bail because I was out of healing (started with 8 potions, I think).

I don't know if his casting was so aggressive because I have all monster AI except smart_cheat on this time around... in any case I'm not sure how to defeat him without burning a massive stack of healing potions.

On 9.7.2005 21:53 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
Too much stuff! Not enough *identify*...

I've been killing plenty of high level uniques. Count is 75/97 at the moment. Had a fun Balrog level, where Gothmog, Lungorthin and the Balrog of Moria each met their demise. Gothmog summoned Lungorthin and one or the other summoned Mr. Moria.

I haven't found any really cool artifacts lately, apart from Narya, which I cannot currently wear. I did, however, finally find Kelek's. Dropped by a Great Wyrm of Many Colours.

Still looking for that disenchantment resist. At the very least, I need it if I am to face the legendary destroyer of equipment and their bearers, the Tarrasque.

On 6.9.2005 22:49 tuomashx@hotmail.com wrote:
I could say I was rusty after a break from the game, but that's just a lame excuse. I was simply too eager to get Tselakus finally killed (he was at one deep red star). Die and learn, et cetera.
