After a seven year layoff, I've picked up Angband again. This Half-Elf ranger is so far one of the best chars I've ever had. I'm at 650' now - not sure if I'm going too slow. I'm in town now, and there are boots of speed (+8) for sale in the armor shop. Should I try to raise the cash in town? Seems like it would take ma long time. I'm not wearing gloves. Also, I'm wondering if I should wear something besides the Ring Of Protection +7. The Shield of Resistance is a recent addition - haven't seen a compelling replacement for the soft leather armor yet.

At this point I could use a little guidance in terms of high-level strategy (what depth to aim for, what key items to look for, does my inventory make sense, etc...).

I'm wielding the Westernesse weapon instead of the Holy Avenger in my house. Seems like the better way to go.
