Finally, finally, FINALLY broke the level 29 barrier. Had three good sorcs all die there before. In the mountain dungeon right now, gloriously out of depth. Hands hurt too much to continue today. :) Bull Gates went down, and I finished the Chameleon cave. Not sure what good the Poly potion is. Sigh. It's over. And, as usual, I forgot to do a character dump after the disappointing final moment. I made it to the bottom of the mountain dungeon, was disappointed to find nothing of note there, then started doing various quests. Beat the Haunted House, the Water Cave, and then opted to do the Old Castle quest (w/ the 2 greater titans and associated baddies). I cleared the left half of the dungeon, then went to work on the titans, who, as expected, were summon happy. One made Zothmog (I might be mixing up the name, but I think it's an "R" unique), who I left alone for a bit. Slew one of the titans, then went to clean up the unique he summoned. I nearly beat the putz, but he decided to summon more guys himself, namely, Zhar the Twin Obscurity, right next to me. Well, Zhar not only has a speed 30 (mine was +19), but each of his three or so melee attacks can do 200 damage. Plus figure in Heng's variable speed system. He got his attacks in as soon as he was summoned, and my 398 or so hits were promptly vaporized to zero. In hindsight I can't think of
a thing I could have done to prevent this death. Just a bad mix of the dice. Anyway, this character ended at level 38, real close to 39, a ton of dungeon books (1 for every school I think), score of 2136368, in 2038193 turns. Argh. It'll be a little bit before I try again. Felt nigh-invincible for awhile. :)

Was fighting a eye druj and a monastic lich, trying out Holy Word, and I just grossly misjudged my hit points (didn't look). One moment of carelessness and that's all it took. The druj double blasted me (nether and mana) and I was completely surprised to be at -95. It's just not meant to be done, at least not now. :)

This character actually had more hit points 4 levels before, but a ball of radiation rerolled his stats and screwed his 190 con to something ridiculous (under 100). Cruising around around 2500' with under 300 hits was rather scary to say the least. Finally thought I was making headway again. Okay, enough of the violin song. Someday, there'll be another. :)
