Part of the christening of my new linux box was to install about 20 Angband variants. This is my first game of Eyangband. (I knew Eytan's name from the int-fiction newsgroups, so it was kind of surprising to see it here.) I had the RNG make me a character, and got handed this Rattikin mage. I have really never played a mage before, usually going for more combat-oriented characters... but this was *fun*. I took a quest right away, and had to kill 13 giant silver centipedes on the first level. The first one was right by the stairs, and I offed it with some acid bolts -- and went up two levels. The last one was in a dead-end corridor that was the very last place I had to uncover on the level. I really enjoy wandering around blasting things, so this character and this variant is turning out to be quite fun.

It's a switch, playing a mage -- and I sometimes forget and send Whiskerlight in swinging, which'll probably be his downfall. But it's pretty darn fun, too.

Right now I'm headed back up to town to see if I can buy another spellbook, because I'll need one pretty soon... and then to see about those hill orcs on L3...
