5% minimum base fail rates, abysmal utility-focused spellset, inflated character level requirements for basic spells. That starting point meant developing an enthusiasm for melee. I'm not sure if this is "intended play" (I'm very casting-inept in the first place), but it didn't seem like spellbooks ever made sense over pure device usage - whether that meant healing, detection, or actual damage.

Gold draconian breath could get rid of particularly pesky little guys and the occasional melee only big guy - briefly I considered dragonform for the level 35 perk, but I couldn't bring myself to make the choice and went with the summon dragon buddies ability instead. Fairly competitive as far as summons go, would choose again. The race also has competitive stats and skills, as far as draconians go. As does the class - after playing a rage mage, all this innate stealth and the easy minimum fails on devices was a blessing.

Much wilderness hunting led to the first big boon, the lead-filled mace of vampirism 'Bull Elephant.' Lots of slick equipment throughout the game, including Kaladanda, that combat ring(!) off of Cthulhu, 3 diamond edges, a precious anti-summoning amulet, and the weapon of choice for the Serpent 'Melted in Balm.' However, lately I'm a big believer in vamp weapons over super-high damage, and Asclepius dropped, so I used that for awhile before 'The Spear of Alaska.' They all served me well, although they probably cut my damage to the 6 blows, 550 maximum range. Not a decent performer overall, in fact felt weaker than rage-mage in lategame because of the nonstop breathing and manastorms. I did have only a 106% life rating, though, so I was taking my life into my own hands. The stat max spread was too nice for me to give up.

Speaking of manastorms, you ever reach single digits after getting hit by nether breath and then a storm in one turn? PGR did that once - and my meager speed and lack of stat drain prevention meant it was pretty much all my fault. Would've been a shame to die that way, but I feel like this character "deserved" death more than many others because of its habitually low speed (probably 22ish by level 50) and poor damage. Tried to fight both PGR and Morgoth separately, but I ultimately lacked the glandular fortitude to pull either one off.

After a major equipment reshuffle and some cool reforges, the Serpent fight involved both melee and devices - I'd say a 40-60 spread. Anti-summoning proved a big deal in this fight, can't imagine how hairy it might have gotten without, considering how breath happy he was and how much damage he did in melee even against 200 AC. I would've preferred to go for 100% melee in the end, but what can you do? Anyway, I'm glad it's over.

So where are we at? Win rate: An acceptable ~3%. Post-level 25 win rate: A reasonable ~13%. Until next time.
