This game was played with the following conduct: I didn't actively try to explore levels after finding at least one staircase. I gave myself the option of cleaning up visible monsters/items before going up or down, but that's all. This includes the staircase used to enter a level, so I had to take each staircase up and down when I found it until it crumbled away. (This conduct stopped when I entered 1000'; the ascent was played normally.)

I was originally worried that this conduct would mean that I would dive too quickly and especially be forced to do 1000' too early (since I had to go there as soon as I found a downstairs on 950'), but the character had reasonably good luck finding items, capped by finding my first ever Ringil! So I figured I would follow Fingolfin's example and try to kill Morgoth with Ringil, and I was more successful than he was. :) It was an extremely close battle, though.

The ascent was quite stressful, since I had quite few consumables and no Revelations and there were a ton of uniques, but using Gorlim for Exchange Places at a few key times got me through.

It was actually pretty fun. The main effects of the conduct are that you can't control your rate of descent and that you don't have known stairs you can retreat to if trouble happens (you can run into unknown territory and hope to find stairs, though), and neither of these things are really unfun.
