Took finesse when thinking about going with bastard sword and momentum, but finding Gaurin after all my polearm failures before decided for polearm. Now I wonder whether I should go light or middle-heavy armour. I will take controlled retreat next, knockback will be probably too expensive.

Found recharge and identified a lot of junk, so could keep Glend for now. Should recover all of them and equip an army :)

Jesus, Gaurin? That is the best weapon ever. Sharp, and also effectively a Mattock of Belegost.

Yes, Gaurin (+ Delmereth and Galadriel) is my favourite weapons in the game.

The curse breaking was unfortunately necessary, but the game compensated me with the boots of Finrod right after. Also hanging on to unidentified rings paid off this time, I at least have some fire resistance now.

If you get just a bit more experience and take song of slaying, you can probably do the throne room right now. I doubt you'd kill V, but you could probably take a Sil pretty easily.

The consumable thing might be a bit tricky, is all.

I would like to finish without repeating 950' (eye on the top20 of the ladder) - just entered it now. Wishlist: whirlwind, concentration, song of staying, woven themes and a few points of evasion and melee. I am willing to trade away my armour for any Mithril or Galvorn armour I find, I hope to find a better amulet and gloves as well. Not sure that will be enough to take on Morgoth.

On 7.11.2013 21:13 taptap wrote:
I already have song of slaying btw. but I badly want the top20 :) I guess I just clear this floor including all the uniques and then see what I can do at 1000'.

Interestingly the serpents have preferred to destroy potions of slow poison and liquor so far, keeping obsolete potions seems to have some advantages.

On 7.11.2013 21:28 debo wrote:
Why whirlwind? ,Rage is much better imo

Concentration sounds like a good idea.

On 7.11.2013 21:39 taptap wrote:
I guess I don't need whirlwind. It would be cool though. I wish I could get the strength point as well, but quite impossible now.

Melee, evasion and concentration it is then.

What do you say about song of staying? (I would feel safer with the additional will and protection, although it won't help much in killing Morgoth.)

On 7.11.2013 21:49 taptap wrote:
Mail Corslet of Resilience or -1, -4 2d7 Hauberk (without resilience?) - I guess the hauberk is way better.

Died to a troll guard when I was too lazy to heal after killing the Balrogs and Draugluin. Meeh. So unnecessary. Shouldn't play while drinking.

Ack!

On 7.11.2013 23:29 debo wrote:
I would have hung onto the resilience corslet for the throne room -- there are so many things that can hurt you there that aren't straight physical damage, and having more Con is always better there IMO.

On 7.11.2013 23:46 taptap wrote:
Hmm. 2d7 armour is a lot, you take amulet of constitution +1 over amulet of "+3 protection (and -1 evasion)"? I would have switched to any Galvorn armour or fine Mithril armour I find, preferably of venom's end (the only obvious weakness - unrelenting horrors poisoned me quite a bit), but when choosing between the two armours I felt I have no choice.

I am a bit angry at myself for this end (that's why there was no deathscreen), I never killed Gothmog, Lungorthin and Draugluin so early (and smoothly). The troll guards would have been no problem if only I had quaffed a single potion.

On 7.11.2013 23:47 taptap wrote:
And doesn't armour reduce a lot of other damage as well?

On 8.11.2013 01:05 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
I know it helps with falling rubble/debris, from something Half or Scatha said on one of my characters. I would choose the 2d7, but that's probably not surprising.

On 8.11.2013 02:18 debo wrote:
I might wear the hauberk in dungeon proper, but for the throne I would go with resilience since you had reasonable base con. Con has that property that HP you get per point rises as Con rises, and you'll likely be drinking !con for the whole throne room.

Body armor helps nothing for breaths -- not sure if it helps for melee-inflicted poison. In any case, it's fairly common for me to get at least 2 big breathers in the throne room, so I'd rather have as much HP as possible. More hp also makes your healing more effective.
