This time, I'm picking a weak fighting class. 5 attacks base with no chance in hell of dual wielding, though the Weaponsmith can make some powerful weapons! Early quests really help in the essence department as, for example, when Wormy dropped a trio of the lowest caliber junk I have ever seen. None were preferable to my plain old vanilla beaked axe! Having lucked into a _Speed in Doom Quest I, I decided to try my luck at The Mimic's Treasure, desperately seeking that alleged 'Monty Haul'. AC97 is pretty nice early on. Finding armor enchantments is hard, which is one reason I did The Mimic's Treasure: There is always some good armor inside.

Ewwww ... The Icky Queen. She's so disgusting! But her drop was super sweet with Colluin, which is freakin' perfect for this class. Lack of double resistance, as my last warrior can attest, is brutal.

So, on the return trip, the BM stocked a crown of might for 59k. I could barely afford it, but I had to sell everything I could think of, including my stack of 94 bolts enchanted all the way up to (+9, +9). I resisted selling Merry, but I was willing to if all else failed. And my defender had to go, with its nice poison and confusion extra resists. Along with my uber ring of damage ... +2. I blew 2k teleporting around to the various towns looking for a favorable weapon shop for my defender, but they all sucked. There's an elf that loves me, but can only afford 10k at a time it seems.

Good thing I've been selling items for gold!

So, this class can't improve artifacts. I forgot about that little restriction. On killing Hagen and getting the oh so precious spear, I had enough to add +3 speed to something. Puzzled by my inability to add to Hammerhand, I was stymied as to what to do? So, I did a couple more quests, including Lord Borel who is rather tough at this point. On finishing him off, I decided +0 speed is just way to slow, and went ahead and enchanted my Shield of Reflection. I figure my crown of might would be nice, but is only +2. And if Thranduil shows up, I'll have to use that. Finding a replacement shield is not likely.

A pair of boots of thievery +1 gave the necessary speed to enchant my crown of might, so now I am +5 base speed, which is a marked improvement.

I think it is pretty close, though Zantetsuken probably wins out with the stat bonuses and higher plusses. Still, the electricity brand equals more damage when it works.

But, I'm finding a few stat potions at DL40 of the Anti-magic Caves, and that is working. Still, Quachil shows up in here too! Damn. Anti-magic caves also spawn Bloodletters of Khorne, who occasionally drop Blades of Chaos. It took 3 mobs or 27 kills for me to score my first, which is absurd. But I have 3 now with maybe 45 kills. I'm not sure I like any better than my shocking cutlass, though. At least not until I garner enough Slay Dragon essences to build a 30d5 dragon slayer! Still, that is only 30% better than my cutlass and is extremely focused, so I'm not sure I'm in a rush for that.

Its funny about your trap story. I had a similar one on a Hobbit Weaponsmith, except the Immortal Beings toasted him immediately. And that guy had the coveted 8d8 Heavy Lance of Slaying with added Slay Evil! I'm still sore over that loss, and that was like 4 years ago :D This guy has had some trap close calls too. I guess Superb Disarming is not foolproof, so I should start carrying my Rods of Disarming.

OK, I decided to brave the Dragon's Lair after all, just to speed the game up a bit. Without -Detection, this is risky. With the need to swap weapons constantly for esp evil, this is risky. With the need to try to heal using an unreliable rod of healing, this is risky. So, on hitting CL37, I decided to brave The Cloning Pits. I knew Frodo would be good for 20 speed essences, and one of the Gachapin clones dropped boots of thievery for another 20. Also, a Gachapin clone dropped Werewindle, so there is another 20 if I need it, but I might use Werewindle for the Old Castle first. So, I have 40 essences of speed, 50 on my current gear, and another 20 in Werewindle for 110 total. This gives me up to +9 to add to various gear, but I am holding out for the right stuff, preferably awesome dragon armor.

I'm really tempted on The Old Castle, just for the off chance of getting my upper tier reward, which would be super nice. Can you guess what it is?

Well, I finally caught up with Victor's sprite, if only in CL. With regard to equipment, well, Club Yer Face is blowing me away! I keep draining artifacts, but if I found Bando-Musha, for example, I'd be using it!

Here is my dragon slaying kit. I still need to zap my rod of healing versus Hell Wyrms and Venom Wyrms, but the other three are easy pickings. Its only a matter of time before the good stuff starts showing up.

When I stumbled on special Blue DSM, my first thoughts were of Elemental of Ching Rong. Nope, I got this instead:

I'll use this for the slays, speed, +4 con and super high AC. Actually, AC167 is helping a bit with the Venom and Hell Wyrms, which eat you alive if your AC is only 140 or so.

Still seeking good dragon armor. I managed gloves with shards, but I really need some good boots too!

Its been slow going finding a decent equipment set. I've managed to kill 140+ Bloodletters of Khorne, scoring 24 Blades of Chaos. Then, a huge vault gave Aglarang and the Glaive of Pain. I'm using Aglarang together with a nice ring of damage for good effect, but the main issues are resistance holes and lack of healing. So, I finally put Darkness resist on my dragon shield. I wasn't sure what to do with the shield, but its not a very good one, so darkness probably should have been added sooner.

Quests are hard for me. Baphomet nearly killed me. Santa Claus was tough, but I ended up shooting him for the kill. Ansalom exposed my lack of darkness resistance with his storms, so it was hurry up and kill him before he kills me :) Druaga exposed my lack of sound resist with plasma breath. The level was 1x1 and it spawned with a pack of wide awake greater undead, including several lesser reavers to tear thru the walls at me. I managed to first teleport Druaga away, then myself to follow, but had to shoot Druaga for the kill, and it was close with the retaliatory breaths and all.

The real issue is lack of healing, as I need 2 or 3 for each battle it seems, and I'm trying to make do with just my rod of healing. But now I have Aglarang, my damage is *much* higher, so perhaps I will perform better? Sound and nexus resistance are still wanting. The latter is troublesome because it seems to always cause quest failures as you rise thru the ceiling ...

Well, another big vault awaits. I had to bail the last one (Pattern) after scoring Narya and Transcendence, as I burned all my destruction, and Daolith decided to summon way more than I could handle.

Hopefully, this one will go better, though I forgot to grab *more* destruction last recall back to town ...
