Thanks to the awesome power of drunken boxing, I was able to rocket up to CL50 in virtually no time at all! And you thought monks were powerful before ;-P

I finally found:
[1] A Ring of Speed. It took until CL48 to get one. I'm up to 4 or 5 total since, so they are not as rare as appeared at first.
[2] Palantir. This was key, as it allowed me to swap out my crown of telepathy, and netted me +6 wisdom overall. Suddenly, Herbal Healing is now 3% fail rate! With my puny hit points, this is essential.

With speed that low, I could not afford to ignore dispel magic, though I often did for a turn or two. This nearly cost me (I have low hp to boot!). And early in the battle, something turned me into a moron so I could no longer count on Herbal Healing at all. Oh well, I had plenty of potions, and that was enough to get the job done.

I think this is my first Human winner!
