wondering what operating system/laptop people play Angband on and how they like it. Pretty sure I am going to return the MacBook Pro I just bought given that it is not at all pro in performance. Quite disappointed.Thinking maybe a Dell? What do people recommend. Not sure what the most stable PCs are these days.

I am using an Dell XPS 13 which is the best laptop I've ever had. But for Angband, a 15" screen on a 14" format laptop would be more ideal for me so the brand new Dell XPS 15" 2-in-1 would be my perfect choice. Expensive, but I am getting one for my wife since it not only has bigger screen but also more power and Nvidia graphics. I run Windows 10 Pro.
I'm sure there are other good options #iworkfordell -
I use a MacBook Pro, but I can't say it's ideal. I'm envious of those desktop players with multiple monitors. Maybe then I'd be able to play using Shockbolt's cool tiles.“We're more of the love, blood, and rhetoric school. Well, we can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”

I like smaller, lighter laptops. I just bought a MacBook Pro 13" on a whim, because it was $1000 (down from $1300 on a "flash sale"), and I like the stability of Mac, but the computer is quite underperforming (struggles to record Hearthstone using Quicktime at its lowest settings). So I am going to return it. Quicktime also wouldn't record the screen properly (unlike my MacBook Air which records it perfectly). I also don't like the clicky, hard to press keys on this new MacBook Pro. The colors on this monitor are really beautiful, though. The wifi on this MacBook Pro also seems super fast and stable. Much better than my MacBook Air.
Dell is probably my first choice since I am pretty sure I want to switch back to PC for Angband (I think it will display better on the pc, but not sure). I have to zoom the entire screen to be able to see the game properly on the Mac, otherwise the game's main window takes up only 1/4 of the monitor.Last edited by Grotug; April 2, 2018, 00:10.Beginner's Guide to Angband 4.2.3 Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9c9e2wMngM

You need an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 at minimum to play Angband without reduced framerate in the most crowded fights. Oh, wait, sorry, April 1 is over.
I have a Thinkpad t460s personally, but choosing a laptop just to have a better Angband experience is not a good idea. Everything sort-of works; the keyboard doesn't matter as long as you use the roguelike keyset (which you should, on a laptop without a numeric keypad; it is much more comfortable), and, as usual the larger screen the better, as long as you don't mind lugging it around.--
