How long have you been playing without winning

For me it's about 7 years this spring. I've played mostly Zangband, mostly with a Vampire Chaos Warrior but lately I've switched to Human Death Knight or Human Chaos Warrior, and also been playing a Vanilla Elf Ranger. And never won.

Am I the only one that's been winless for that amount of time?

14 years and counting. But his whole "winning" thing is overrated. Even, only very recently some variants have any kind of special end game, really.

        Well that makes it anticlimactic

Although tbh just being on dungeon level 99 or 100 would be enough for me

I've only been playing Angband for about two years and haven't won, but I played Nethack for about ten years before getting my first win (and only ever won it once).

          My old variant DaJAngband:
http://sites.google.com/site/dajangbandwebsite/home (defunct and so old it's forked from Angband 3.1.0 -I think- but it's probably playable...)

The first rogue-like I saw was Moria on a classic mac back in '88. It wasn't my machine, I couldn't delve properly until later, but that was when it started for me. 20 years. You could very easily get less for first degree murder.

There have been close calls. I had a paladin get to Evil Iggy in Moria (which as I understand is very close to the bottom). And my last character (a dwarf warrior?) was deep, Great Wyrm and Balrog deep. But I always used to play slow and careful. The wonderful people on this list inspired me to try crazy dives down to stat gain level. It's like a new game again. Old items have new uses. No longer do I have to kill everything (or anything) on a level.

I've been Angbanding without a win for about 14 years now ... and I used to cheat, too. I've just in the past month started playing without cheating, and it's much more fun and exciting.

Six years now, always Z. Never won, but I've come close. I think my current Mage has a chance as well, level 50, max stats and +12 natural speed atm. Need those rare spell books, more speed, a couple of res's and I'll give it another shot. Will keep ya posted!

I started playing Umoria as a kid in the late 80s and early 90s (i used to play it on my dad's allegedly portable computer, the ones that looked like giant cinder blocks, with the monochrome screen)...I didnt play it all that seriously for a long time. Then when I did it probably took three years to find and kill the Balrog....and my character that did it spent a LOT of time fleeing the almighty Balrog until he was ready to fight him.

Ive only picked up Angband in the last 6 months or so, and havent gotten all that deep....clvl 35 or so...I havent been playing it seriously since i got my new computer either. I find playing it old school because I now have vista is annoying.

I've played off and on for 7 years. I've had two computers crash during that time and each time I couldn't make a copy of my hard drive

I haven't won a game yet but I think I've got a character that can do it now. I've installed a back up drive, so even a dead pc shouldn't stop me!

Years and years and years ... starting with Moria on the Amiga back in the 80s.

I managed only twice to win the game, last autumn and this spring.

erm, I picked up Moria in 1991. I played Frog-Knows when it was the new version. And I've never won.
