Also I should say that I admire anyone that can code. I can't for the life of me. Which is probably why I haven't tried to create my own variant at this point despite having ideas for them.

            31. Started playing Nethack around 2002-ish when I was at university (Cybernetics, for the stats), though before that I loved the Megadrive pseudo-Roguelike Fatal Labyrinth, and I always loved text adventures and RPGs as a kid.

35, started playing (and dying) in 1992 i was just a freshmen in hs with tons of potential. now i'm just a sweat shop slave with no future.(but that was due to streetfighter and mortal kombat 2, not angband)

              He did the morgoth mash.
              The morgoth mash.
              It was an angband smash.

Well you are one of the best Sil players so totally makes sense. If you are in a comp I know I'm not going to do that well : ( I think you won that NPP comp that started with a hobbit rogue with The One Ring.

And you are damn good too. Even without math skills. But I think we have totally different playing styles in any variant. BUT they both work so it doesn't matter in the end.

                      I'm 32.

Frog Knows was the first version I played; I would have been about...13?

I also played the SSI Goldbox series back in the day - awesome too.

Neoband always wants ideas to steal.

Umm yeah. 25, and started playing Angband on classic MacOS when I was 12 or so. It's probably one of the things responsible for my career path (wanted to go into physics, wound up shepherding Linux servers).

And I don't have any degrees. College and me did not get along.

Not me; that was ewan. I haven't branched out into the variants hardly at all; only ever seriously played Vanilla and Sil (and Moria, but that was years ago). I generally play too slow to win the comp's I enter. I only come out on top when all the people who play faster than me manage to die.

Really? What's your hobby, mine is calculating squares of double-digit numbers in my head while commuting. Numbers around 7 are painful, you need to really concentrate on calc to get that right. Makes commuting over in no time flat.

My hobby is handing retailers the exact notes+change for my purchases before they've finished scanning them. The younger they are, the more wide-eyed they get.
