Disabling Graphics in Vulture's Claw

Hey everyone,

I'm having a time of it getting a working version of Slash'em on the newfangled Windows 7. I can't even get DosBox emulation to work, so I downloaded Vulture's Claw, which is essentially Slash'em with a graphical overlay. Thing is, I DON'T want a graphical overlay as it makes the game clumsy and much harder to play from a visual standpoint.

Is it possible to disable the graphics and bring back the world of ascii happiness? My google search came up with nothing.

Isn't Slash'Em a NetHack variant? You'd probably have better luck asking a NetHack community.
